Dave Doyle did a Q&A with Dana White about everything and nothing at the same time (even Dana doesn’t have much new to say lately), but one interesting tidbit to come out of their conversation was the possibility of a smaller cage in the UFC:
DD: Would the WEC fighters lose something if you moved them from the smaller WEC cage to the bigger UFC Octagon?
DW: Actually, we’ve been talking about making the Octagon smaller. We’re considering making it smaller. [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva wants it. I think he wants to turn the thing into a fucking bathtub. Have them fight in a little tollbooth.
This would be where it would be handy to know my shit when it comes to fighting. Would a smaller cage make it harder for guys to run away and circle each other endlessly? Or would it just result in more of that bullshit stand up cage-jockeying we’re seeing a lot lately? I have no fucking clue. But even though I generally subscribe to the ‘If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ school of thought, I am strangely intrigued by this idea.
