Anderson decides he’s above defending his title, MMA officially goes boxing

According to his manager, Anderson Silva no longer has time for your average petty title defenses. At this point it’s superfight or bust:

“No opponent makes sense for Anderson at this moment. Unless we do a catchweight against Georges St. Pierre,” he suggests. “They didn’t offer the fight, but he’s the only one that could do a super fight. Anderson has the biggest paycheck in the UFC, and you can’t promote an event with these amateur kids that are coming up now”

On one hand, the UFC may have created a monster! If you were waiting for the first uber-rich primadonna athlete to raise his ugly head in the UFC, this may just be it. On the other hand, fuck yes! Whatever it takes to get us Anderson vs GSP! Make that fight happen, Anderson. Make it happen through sheer force of will!

Unfortunately, GSP is in no rush to move up and still wants to fight Nick Diaz. So we’ve got at least that plus Carlos Condit, plus all that time Georges says he’ll need to bulk up for the challenge. Anderson Silva might be cool with sitting out until then, but something tells me Dana White might not be. The UFC’s business model relies on their stars fighting, so what happens when those stars are making enough to thumb their noses at fights that’ll make them less than 5 million?

here’s an idea… strip his title and make him the equivalent of an end boss with no set weight class. It opens up the title for other guys and leads to better fights.

  • iamphoenix

have him fight urijah faber because faber can still hang.

  • Blackula Jonez

What Clint said actually makes sense, have him just pop up randomly for any middleweight or light heavy that is on a win streak.

Instant co main status, have dudes paranoid about the match up lol. Dude is on a 16 fight win streak in the UFC, that shit is never going to get broken in our lifetime…unless Anderson wins his next fight lol.

Translaition:I know I won’t be lucky if they throw me Chael again,Belfort and Weidman are pretty scary not to mention there s still Lombard and Palhares in the division.I think I’ll call out the smaller, just out of surgery GSP or retire.

MMA Weekly has a story up quoting Cesar Gracie saying “Nick will respectfully ask for a fight with Anderson Silva, a fighter he respects and would like to challenge”.

Works for me. I’d sure as hell watch that one.

anderson is such a coward ,,, he didnt want any talk about the fight before gsp was injured, let gsp fight at least 2-3 times before this fight is made. injury comeback fights are the worst more often then not.. and hes obviously being a pussy by not even mentioning jon jones considering anderson can be in that division no prob..hes just being the good old retarded spider on this one i guess…

  • drunkenjunk

fuck you logan and gray. I’m sure anderson is terrified of Vitor again or weidman. They’re not on his level thats why he doesn’t want to fight them. Clint is right, just give him super fights and let someone else fight for the belt.

Anderson only has a few fights left in him at his age. He will squeeze out the money fights now while trying to stay winning. The culminating retirement fight will be Jones cause even if he loses the monay will have been made.

Where the fuck does Anderson say anything about anything in the quote above?

Anderson’s manager is doing the talking, and he’s obviously trying to push for the biggest money fight that he can, given Anderson’s cut of PPV buys. Of course Anderson would rather fight GSP ($$$) than Chris Weidman (who nobody has heard of) or Tim fucking Boetsch (who nobody gives a shit about).
