Intheguard.tv got a shocking bit of news from Brazilian TV channel SporTV:
“I’ll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don’t need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I’ll put my gloves aside.”
Ana Hissa, the editor who contacted us with this breaking news, was emphatic, saying that Silva mentioned retirement several times. This was unimaginable for them because Silva is in the best stage of his career and is the king pin of UFC’s 185 pounds division.
There could be a bunch of reasons why Silva wants to retire. He’s been fighting quite a bit since 2000, building up 26 fights over that time. 8 years is a long time to do anything, so why not go out when you’re on top? There’s also the thought that Silva is getting bored, but I don’t know if that’s the case. If he wanted big money (and challenge) fights against guys like Chuck Liddell and Georges St Pierre, all he’d have to do is ask Dana for them and he’d get them.
The big thing that seems to confuse everyone is why Silva wants to retire when he’s just asked to fight more often. To me, the answer seems pretty obvious: make as much money as you can as quickly as you can and then retire with your body and reputation intact to a privately owned island 50 miles off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. That’s my plan with Fightlinker. So enjoy the next few months of content here, because soon it’s veja mais tarde, idiotas!
