I’m so confused. First Anderson Silva wants to box, then he wants to do 205 but still defend at 185. Then he wants to be a heavyweight. AND he wants to stay middleweight champion until he dies. So to achieve all of the above (minus the boxing hopefully), he wants someone else to be interim middleweight while he puts on the pounds for some fights he actually gives a shit about. Here’s his manager Ed Soares playing Joe Silva:
“Dana and the UFC are going to do what they think is right but I think the winner of Nate Marquardt and Demian Maia should fight Dan Henderson for the number one contender. I mean, I even think it would be interesting to see the winner of Demian Maia/Nate Marquardt fight Dan Henderson for the interim title and then whoever wins the interim title fights Anderson for the title.”
“Yeah, we just said to Dana and Lorenzo Fertitta before his fight against Forrest and we said ‘hey, depending how he does, who knows, maybe he can move up and fight at heavyweight’ and my partner mentioned Frank Mir’s name and that was about it.” When queried about other names such as Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, Soares retorted, “I think Anderson Silva will be competitive against just about anybody.”
Hey, I’m down with all of it except this interim belt bullshit. If Anderson Silva wants to leave the middleweight division for a while and chase superfights at 205 and beyond, then that’s awesome. But let go of the middleweight belt while you do it, you fucking dope.
