Arthur Jones has a Super Bowl ring and a brand-new contract with the Indianapolis Colts. However, that didn’t stop him from returning to Baltimore to help his brother, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, prepare for tonight’s UFC 172 card.
Arthur is the oldest of the brothers – fellow NFL player Chandler Jones is 24 and Jon is 26 – and says he will always be the protector for his younger siblings.
“I always want to protect him,” said Arthur, during an interview with MMAjunkie.com. “It’s one of those things where, when he’s in the cage, I feel like I’m in the cage too.
“It’s nerve-racking. I have teammates that are there with me, but I tell them, ‘Don’t bother me’ (when at Jon’s fights). We’ll talk while everyone else is fighting, but when it comes to the main event, when Jon’s fighting, I have to shut down.
“My adrenaline is pumping like, ‘Here we go.'”
Arthur worked his way from a fifth round draft pick by the Baltimore Ravens to a starter on the defensive line. This offseason, he signed a five-year, $30-million contract with the Colts.
Jon has promised something special for his walk to the Octagon to meet Teixeira, and he’ll have both brothers there cheering him on.
“My heart is racing,” Arthur said. “I usually have a tear running down my eye when Jon walks out. My brother is my best friend. It’s just a crazy adrenaline rush, but I love the sport.”
We’ll have complete coverage of UFC 172, including pre- and post-fight news, information and results from the card.
