Unfortunately (or maybe not, depending on your opinion of their first fight), MMA Weekly broke the news this evening that Jon Fitch suffered an undisclosed injury in training and has pulled out of his scheduled rematch with BJ Penn at UFC 132. It’s since been confirmed by multiple others, and ESPN claims it’s something to do with his shoulder.
The UFC is reportedly searching for a replacement to face BJ on that card, but no one has yet been named. The timing isn’t bad though, with July 2nd being just over 3 months away, that’s enough time for whoever gets tapped to still fit in a full training camp.
And if the name “Carlos Condit” popped into your head, he’s way ahead of you, and says he’d “take the fight in a second.” Condit’s been out of action himself since knocking out Dan Hardy back in October, as a dislocated kneecap forced him out of a date with Chris Lytle at UFC 127. He’s healing up fine, and was already planning to return in June or July, so it would all work out nice and convenient-like.
As far as I’m concerned, this is a stroke of luck for fans and BJ alike… I figure BJ stands a much better chance against Condit, and we all stand a much better chance of getting a fight worth watching. So here’s hoping Dana “follows” Carlos on Twitter, cause that match sounds good to me.
