Brad Imes is the gogo-master

This is turning out to be quite the unpredictable year, and things are only getting weirder and weirder. At times, things are so strange you have to wonder if something is going on with time and space itself … if the threads making up the fabric of the universe are being twisted by some unknown Ta’avern. What’s making me think the end of the world is night?

Brad fucking Imes just pulled off his second gogoplata finish in a fucking row.

At first i thought this was a mistake … that the website I had read this from was just reposting results from Brad’s last match. But it’s true … Brad Imes defeated Bo Cantrell 55 seconds into the first round with one of MMA’s rarest submissions. I can count the number of times on my toes that the gogoplata has been used successfully in MMA, and never mind you the extra 3 toes I have … that’s between me and the makers of Thalidomide to sort out.

I have to wonder if this news will make a rumored match between Imes and Brock Lesnar any more or less likely. Me, I’d imagine the UFC wouldn’t want to throw Lensar in the ring with someone who’s been jiu-jitsuing like the second coming of Carlson. On the other hand, I think Brock Lesnar’s arms and shoulders are probably so big it would be impossible to gogoplata him.

Anyone know where to get the video for this?

I think it makes a fight less likely. Everyone has been touting Imes is better than people give him credit for and the two wins confirm that. Even though the UFC (and MMA) has no guaranteed wins I think his first fight is likely to be against a heavy underdog. They want to get him in the title picture but a debut loss could kill his career (even though it’s still very young).

This coming from a guy who it look more than 2 minutes to secure an armbar to a non resisting opponent on TUF.

Didn’t Brad Imes get beat by Heath Herring and Dan Christianson? If so, then he can’t be all that great.

That’s just crazy. It’s like Uzbekistan beating USA at hockey — twice.

    this is fucking ridiculous.

Jon : Sometimes fighters improve! Imes was still kinda green when he was fighting in the UFC … his trainers were probably pushing him to use his strength rather than finesse. Now all of a sudden someone might have realized this guy’s pretty damned good on the mat. It’ll be interesting to see if that skill is developed

This is actually one of the most unbelievable improvements from a fighter. Barring that his opponent was drunk or fighting on 2 hours of sleep in the last 24 hours, this is pretty impressive.

Brad Imes already has as many gogos as Thalidomide babies have toes. Er, foot-paddles.

  • Ted Dibiase

losing to herring isnt too shameful, kissing him is tho

This is just crazy. Brad Imes is a big marshmallow. It’s Lesnar you guys are underestimating. Brock Lesnar will be the next big thing. He will have a belt less than 2 years after his first ufc fight. You heard it here first. Lesnar would brutally destroy Imes in the first round. Not even a contest.

Imes has definitely made a ‘quantum leap,’ in the scientific sense, in his jiu-jitsu skills.

He showed signs of improved ground skills when he fought Herring. Maybe now his skills have just clicked into place.

What is even more amazing is that Imes is a huge heavyweight. You would think that only skinny, stretchy Dhalisms such as Shinya Aoki or Nick Diaz could pull off gogos.
