actually i doubt he could have–watching the fight it was clear that lil nog had trained for tito’s outside double-leg very, very well. it was only when davis switched to the single-leg, a takedown that ortiz doesn’t really use, that nog started getting put on his back. nog woulda tko’d ortiz in fairly short order had the fight happened

There is a world of difference in what Rumble did to Hardy and what Davis did to lil Nog. Rumble maintained top position, never passed guard or did any serious ground and pound but had two sub attempts in the last minute of the 3rd round. Davis struggled to get Nog down and when he finally got it was working to pass, dropped punches knees and elbows.
Conversely in the stand up portion of their fights, Davis stood on the outside and worked an akward kicking game to stay out of boxing range of Lil Nog and it worked for the most part, would like to see more looks from his kicks other than going for the head. AJ on the other hand actually knocked Hardy down but was still worried about standing with him because of what.
Truth of the matter is that Dan Hardy is not as good as he gets billed as. All the guys he beat are either already out of the UFC or still on the injured/ill list. He is supposed to be some elite striker but has only one UFC KO finish over Rory “Glass Jaw” Markham. Hardy may train with Daley but he is not the fearsome striker that Semtex is nor do I think he will ever be. That and my gf likes the limey bastard.
