It’s supposed to be the fighters who plan on doing outrageous shit that will piss off promoters and burn bridges forever. The manager’s job is to calm them down and smooth over issues with both parties. Or maybe it’s not, I dunno. Because Nick Diaz’s manager Cesar Gracie was planning on essentially torpedoing Nick’s career and the career of all his roster.
Here’s the scoop: Nick Diaz was released from his Pride contract because Zuffa refuses to deal in non-exclusive contracts. Cesar Gracie wrote a post on his website saying he was going to post up private emails regarding the deal:
In our opinion this ouster had everything to do with Nick’s participation in the EliteXC organization and nothing to do with Zuffa’s technical grounds. Everyday this week we will post corresponding emails and let you the reader be the ultimate judge.
Wow. No fucking shit the ouster had to do with Nick fighting for EliteXC. Do you think you’re Sherlock Holmes figuring this out? Do you think posting emails from Zuffa regarding this was going to do anything but entertain people like me and ruin your career?
Unfortunately, it looks like Cesar figured some of this shit out and won’t be posting the emails after all:
After careful consideration and a fruitful dialogue with the UFC, we have decided not to publish our corresponding emails. We look forward to working with Zuffa in the future for the betterment of the sport.
It’s too bad, really. I doubt Dana White and the gang are going to forget this hilarious little episode and work openly with Cesar Gracie in the future. There are several good fighters under Cesar who should be in the UFC but aren’t because the UFC already hated working with him. After this I can only imagine things will be worse.
BONUS! Cesar’s greatest drama hits:
