I guess he finally is like a real politician
If things couldn’t get any worse for everyone’s favorite Republican MMA fighter he is now in trouble with the feds. According to the Department of Justice:
he conducted a financial transaction designed to hide or disguise the ownership and control of proceeds of mortgage fraud
That is some serious shit since he can be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison and/or fined up to a half million dollars. He’s copped a plea deal so the 20 years and half million dollars are just for non-famous or non-Republican people.
Best part of the article is what the Special Agent in charge has to say:
Marcus Williams, a special agent in charge of IRS criminal investigations for the Pacific Northwest, issued a public statement about Sonnen’s case.
“West Linn residents, and other residents throughout the Portland-Vancouver area, can rest assured knowing that federal law enforcement agencies take mortgage fraud very seriously because it played a major role in almost crippling this nation’s banking system just a few years ago,” he said.
Apparently Chael Sonnen caused the financial collapse. I bet it was really his Mexican doppelganger, Guel.
Update: I found a little more info about what went down via Oregon Live:
According to federal prosecutors, Sonnen arranged for a title company to pay $69,000 to a plumbing company for repairs to the home that were never done. Most of that money was paid to the home’s buyer, said Gerri Badden, a spokeswoman with the Oregon U.S. Attorney’s Office.
As part of his plea deal, Sonnen agreed to give up his Realtor’s license and pay a $10,000 fine, said Michelle Holman Kerin, the assistant U.S. attorney handling the case
I guess he isn’t in as much trouble as I thought.
Special thanks to Reem.Hadouken, or what ever he chooses to call himself today, for finally letting me break a real story!
