Yep, you read it right. In what I can only hope is the first of many hilariously unreasonable restrictions placed on Chael Sonnen due to his two year probation, he’ll be missing the April NSAC hearing to get his fight license back over a big dumb biker party:
A source close to the fighter’s camp told MMAjunkie.com that the delay comes not from Sonnen but his federal probation officer, who has denied him permission to enter Clark County as part of a mandate to keep convicted felons out of the county for the Laughlin River Run, an annual motorcycle rally that’s in its past seen violence from rival motorcycle clubs.
However impossible it would be for Sonnen to cause trouble at a motorcycle rally, it appears he’s been caught up in a preemptive step by federal law enforcement to avoid such an incident as the brawl at a 2002 rally that left dead three bikers from the Mongols and Hells Angles.
The Angles are, of course, the math club branch of the Hell’s Angels. Stupid MMA Junkie … MMA news site of the year my ass.
This doesn’t completely kill Sonnen’s chances of coaching TUF – season 14 is likely to start in September, which means May is more than early enough to take care of everything. Chael’s just gotta hope his hard ass probation officer doesn’t find another excuse to keep him out of Vegas. Maybe an Insane Clown Posse concert on the same day?
