The scorecards are out for Saturday’s hotly contested Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson fight and they’re surprisingly lucid – no judges gave any of the obvious rounds to the wrong fighter and the entire fight ended up being decided on the very close second and third rounds. Check em out:
Richard Bertrand (48-47 Jones): Round 1 – Gustafsson, Round 2 – Jones, Round 3 – Gustafsson, Round 4 – Jones, Round 5 – Jones
Doug Crosby (48-47 Jones): Round 1 – Gustafsson, Round 2 – Gustafsson, Round 3 – Jones, Round 4 – Jones, Round 5 – Jones
Chris Lee (49-46 Jones): Round 1 – Gustafsson, Round 2 – Jones, Round 3 – Jones, Round 4 – Jones, Round 5 – Jones
For those who want more info, there’s also Fightmetric’s statistical breakdown of the match, which goes along with what most people are saying: Gus almost took it but got edged out on rounds. He also takes it via PRIDE judging due to those fourth and fifth rounds, although I guess you could make an argument that Alex did more damage than Jones. Even that is debatable though considering the number of body shots Jones delivered, and while Gustafsson fucked up Jon’s face, you gotta take into account the less visible but more problematic brain damage Alex incurred via the dozen spinning back elbows he ate.
