Patricky Freire

It was not the Bellator 172 event anyone expected to see, but the show went on anyway.

Hours before the first fight, officials announced that Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione was off due to Mitrione becoming ill. The two were set to headlint the event from San Jose’s SAP Center in Spike.

In place of Fedor’s Bellator debut, lightweights Josh Thomson and Patricky “Pitbull” Freire collided, with Freire scoring a second round finish.
