MAIN CARD

Mark Eddiva vs. Levan Makashvili

We begin the main card in the featherweight division, as Levan Makashvili (6-1) makes his Octagon debut against Mark Eddiva (6-1). A native Filipino, Eddiva will have the crowd in his corner for this one.

Round 1: Swift leg kicks from Eddiva right off the bat, as Makashvili takes control of the center. Makashvili lands with a quick left and Eddiva shoots for a takedown. Nice defensive wrestling for “The Hornet,” as they exchange knees to the body. Makashvili picks him up with a single-leg and scores an easy takedown. Bit of a lull against the fence and the ref steps in. Nice combo from Eddiva and Makashvili answers back, and we get more kicks from the Filipino. Takedown in the final seconds for Makashvili to likely steal the round.

Round 2: Much like the first, Eddiva is controlling things on the feet with his kicks. Makashvili engages, forcing the clinch and making this a grinder. He tried for a trip takedown, but Eddiva was able to remain upright. Makashvili went for a takedown, but Eddiva grabbed the fence. He transitions to a single-leg and gets it, though Eddiva is quick to pounce back up. Makashvili gains hold of him with a body-lock and just rag-dolls Eddiva to the ground. Again, though, he cannot keep him down. Still back at it and Makashvili scores another takedown and is able to gain side-control with two-plus minutes left. A lot more output for Makashvili, as he has Eddiva constantly backing up and unwilling to engage. Makashvili another late takedown and he lands several punches to finish the fight.

Phillipe Nover vs. Yui Chul Nam

We’ll remain in the featherweight division with our next contest, as Phillipe Nover (10-5-1) takes on Yui Chul Nam (18-4-1). Nover is making his return after a five year hiatus from the UFC, while Nam is debuting at 145 pounds.

Round 1: Just like the first main card bout, no touch of gloves. Nam is coming right out after Nover, cutting the distance. However, it’s Nover who scores with a quick takedown. Nam works to his knees and is up, but Nover clasps the hands and brings him back down to the canvas. Some minor damage is being inflicted by Nover, but nothing that will stop the fight. Nover grabs a double-leg, scoops and slams, but Nam is able to get right back up off the bounce. A lot of energy is being used by Nover through the first three minutes. Strong, not dominate round one for Nover.

Round 2: Nover gets caught and dropped, as Nam starts to put a beating on him with huge shots. Nover, though, is able to almost secure a submission, but Nam gets free and unloads once more. Nover survives the onslaught and is back to his feet. A very exciting two minutes of action from these fighters. Nover telegraphs his takedown and Nam easily defends. The two are clinched against the fence, which is the best place for Nover to be. Good takedown defense, but Nover is relentless and gets it to the canvas. Nam works to his feet and drags Nover down. Nover tries for a submission, but eats several big-time shots to close out the round.

Round 3: Nice pair of takedowns for Nam to start the round. Working the body is Nam as we head under the three-minute mark. Nover knows what he needs to do to get up, but he notices a guillotine and grabs hold of it. The crowd is trying to will him to the choke, but Nam gets free and is back on top. Nam trying for a head-and-arm choke, but Nover is defending. Nevertheless, he is in complete control and suffocating him on the ground. Great finish by Nam, as he postures up and hammers Nover to end the fight.
