After decimating poor Hiroko Yamanaka in only 16 seconds back in December, Strikeforce Women’s Featherweight Champion Cris “Cyborg” Santos, the female half of the unholy Cyborg union, popped hot for steroids, which was about as shocking as the kid from Who’s the Boss coming out of the closet. Ronda Rousey wasn’t shy about expressing her thoughts on the situation, saying “Everyone knew she was cheating.” Now that Cyborg is almost done serving out her yearlong suspension, she’s setting her sights on Ronda, who has since become the new face of women’s MMA. Cyborg spoke on the MMA Hour:
“I really wanna fight Ronda. She says bad things about me. I never say bad things about my opponent. I want to do my best in the octagon, and if she says she wants to fight me, she can come to my weight or at 140.”
Aside from not knowing the difference between an octagon and a hexagon, I like what Cyborg is selling here. This would be a huge fight between the hands down best – steroids or no steroids – female fighter in the world and Ronda, who we’re not exactly sure where she stands just yet, but damn if she aint purty and can sell the fuck out of a fight. Of course it would have to be at 145 or at the very lowest, 140, because Cyborg aint down with gettin’ all petite ‘n shit, or anything feminine for that matter:
“I’m a women but I want to fight the same as a man. I like training hard. I like to punch the face. I like getting punched in the face. I fight the same as a man. I train the same as a man. I think this is different from other girls.”
God she’s scary. I don’t care that Zuffa doesn’t prioritize women’s MMA. This is a fight they should make or die trying.
