Dana was not impressed with that performance

I gotta hand it to Dana White. While he’s willing to defend a shitty card right up until it happens, if it doesn’t deliver you won’t hear him pretending it did. Once again he got a less than inspired headlining fight and once again he wasn’t afraid to completely torpedo it and the fighters responsible. From the press conference:

“When we come and we put these guys on a headliner to go after the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, and the main event looks like that? It’s very disappointing,” he said.

And here he is in a post-event media scrum really throwing Marquardt and his camp under the bus:

“Marquardt is such a talented guy, and what I’m seeing is stuff from the Greg Jackson camp,” he said. “This camp continuously – when these guys fight, their corner is either telling them they’re ahead or they’re winning.
“I mean, Nate Marquardt sat here tonight and said that he thought he won the fight. Where the [expletive] is his corner? You go into the last round and you’re getting outstruck by a wrestler, and you think you won the fight? And this is consistent with the Greg Jackson camp.”
“You already blew a title shot once; you’re in a fight for the title shot again in the third round, and you’re not throwing any punches or kicks? It has nothing to do with pressure. You’re … professional, and you’re going to go after it in the last round to get your title shot.”
“Listen – you couldn’t meet a nicer guy than Nate Marquardt,” White said. “He’s a great guy. Nice kid – choked tonight.”

I suppose it’s unfair to say Dana threw Marquardt under the bus when it was basically Nate who did it to himself. Chalk it up to another striker getting sucked into doing nothing but waiting for the shoot instead of ripping the head off the shooter.

I loved Nates little bullshit take down in round 3, thinking that would win the round.

  • fightlinker

Yeah guys that fight to eek out decisions get what they deserve in the long run.

They are not fighting at that point… go fuck yourself. it’s like a race car driver who does 65mph until everyone else crashes.

  • Symbul

Nate’s third round was some bullshit. It wasn’t an electrifying performance by any means up until that point but he seriously checked out on the stool between rounds two and three. I don’t know what his corner told him but it can’t have been “dance around the cage a bit for five minutes”.

Blaming Jackson’s camp just sounds childish and petty to me.

^ I think Nates comer advice, was keep his hands up, counter punch & pressure Okami.
How the fuck is it possible to pressure a guy by counter-punching?
And wtf would you want to counter punch Okami anyway.

What makes it worse is that Pac/Magarito delivered.

  • Tanhauser

    The pac fight was brilliant.

    did you even watch it?

  • P W

Pacman vs Magarito, now THAT was an EVENT.

  • Jim

Pacman/Magarito is why boxing is a joke. Apparently Manny’s the champ @ 154. even though he’s never fought anyone at that weight. It’s like Anderson Silva beating Randy Couture @ a catch-weight of 195 IBS & being declared the LHW champ.

As for the fight itself, I stopped watching after round 4. A slow big guy trying to punch a fast little guy only worksif the slow big guy has the punching power to hurt the little guy.
Went exactly how everyone said it was going to go.

  • glassjawsh

reminded a lot of the antonio tarver v chad dawson fights in that one slow ass guy gets peppered to death by much speedier guy. was bored of all 3 fights by the 5th round

  • Tanhauser

Except Vitor Belfort is getting a title shot for no reason? haha

  • iamphoenix

    the UFC should retire.

  • Márcio

I’m sure Greg Jackson will ve thrilled by Dana’s meaningfull and useful insight. Jackson’s camp will never be the same after this.

btw… BOXING FUCKING SUCKS, I got lured by the 24/7 show and actually began to watch it, what a snorefest, Margarito was never in that fight, if this is the best competition they can find for Many, it tells me all I need to know about the depth of the sport’s talent pool.

  • frickshun

Dana can be such an unprofessional cockface as a president of a company. But he’s saying what all of us want to tell Greg Jackson–>STOP COACHING GUYS TO DO JUST ENOUGH TO WIN W/O TAKING ANY RISK. If nobody takes any risks, nobody will be finishing fights. And all of us will not be in lust w/the sport any more.

    Dana–>call me.

  • FiveBoltMain

Nate choked against Chael and he choked once again against Okami. Maybe it’s all mental, but he doesn’t seem to have that killer instinct when it comes to the big fights.
