The days of old are returning in Oklahoma, as BattleGrounds MMA is hosting a one-night, eight-fighter tournament. The event takes place June 27 from the BOK Center in Tulsa.
Six of the eight have already been signed for the welterweight tournament, which will see the winner pocket $50,000.
The bracket includes Dennis Hallman, Cody McKenzie, Chris Honeycutt, Luigi Fioravanti, David Mitchell and Josh Bryant.
Kenny Monday, a former Olympic wrestler, is in charge of BattleGrounds MMA. He stated plans to hold a lottery drawing after weigh-ins to determine the bracket.
“We’re excited to have assembled a group of incredibly talented and accomplished athletes for this landmark tournament,” he said. “The one-night tournament is truly the toughest test physically and mentally in all of combative sports.
Hallman is a veteran of the MMA world, compiling a 53-14-2 record over his career with two wins over Matt Hughes, while McKenzie (15-4) is an alum of The Ultimate Fighter and recently competed for the UFC. Honeycutt (4-0) is a former NCAA wrestling runner-up, while Mitchell (14-4) is a protege of Urijah Faber. Fiorvanti (24-11) is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Bryant (14-4) is an alum of TUF.
