Today in clueless fighters not understanding why they aren’t getting title shots: Mike Kyle and Jon Fitch. First: Kyle, who is upset Scott Coker didn’t have permission from Zuffa overlords to declare his fight with Rafael Feijao a #1 contender fight. Via USA Today:
I think it’s bullcrap. You heard what he said — maybe I’ll be the No. 1 contender. I haven’t lost any 205-pound fights. I definitely believe that I’m the No. 1 contender. I was told before I’d be the No. 1 contender. It is what it is. I’m really upset by it. It makes me really not even want to fight.
You know what makes me really want to see Kyle go through with that? His maiming of another fighter after a stoppage in the WEC. Kyle being one of the only two people in the history of the UFC to bite someone in the cage. Any time he wonders why he isn’t getting the push he thinks he deserves, he should consider the fact that he’s lucky he wasn’t pushed out of the sport completely after those incidents.
Now onto Jon Fitch, who’s still confused as to why he was never offered a title shot after beating Thiago Alves at UFC 117…
“There is a little bit of frustration and motivation in a situation like that,” Fitch said. “It’s kind of like having the rug pulled out from under you. You are told you are getting one thing and I felt like I had one of the best performances of my career that night. Then you don’t get the title shot and it sucks, but you can’t let yourself worry about those things too much.
“If people think that I’m not beating people up in there, all they have to do is look at my opponent’s face after the fight. If I’m not doing work in there, then how did their face get so f***ed up?”
I’ve already explained the Jon Fitch Title Snub situation several times before, so instead I will just present Jon with this anniversary cake. It’s a bit early (the actual milestone is June 12th, 2012) but why wait:
