It’s super Japan day here at fightlinker, where half the stories are all about Japan. Kinda. Sorta. This one involves the UFC too because it’s about Fedor.
Basically, the peeps running DREAM have stated their goal of having Mirko Crocop fight Fedor for this year’s NYE show. While it’s not really that surprising to hear, it does have implications beyond the obvious since that would put the kaibosh on Fedor fighting in the UFC.
I know there’s been some shit floating around that the UFC is trying to arrange a 1-fight deal with Fedor, but let’s take a second to analyze that rumor. It was originally posted on MMAFightline.com, which isn’t exactly a reputable source. They fail on pretty much every moral level: 10,000 ads, they rarely if ever credit their sources, they often claim other site’s quotes and interviews as their own, and they have a history of writing misleading posts in order to get links to maximize traffic. Add on the fact that none of the really solid news sites even bothered to address this site’s claim and I’d say you can safely dismiss it.
Dana White isn’t going to be able to sign Fedor to an exclusive deal because Fedor has been saying for over 2 years now that he won’t agree to such a deal. And while it’s a nice fantasy to imagine Dana would bend the rules to make Fedor/Randy happen in the UFC, my bet is he’s perfectly happy letting those two fight for HDNet and seeing how much money Mark Cuban loses. Besides, the latest news from Randy is that he’s no longer willing to fight Fedor in the UFC.
If this was a magic 8 ball, then “All signs point to No”. Sure, we all want to see Fedor in the UFC, if only to see how he fares against consistant top-level opponents. But I just don’t think it’s going to happen.
