DVR alert: Glory 6 Istanbul

This weekend is stuffed with fighting events that are kinda tailor-made to be either DVR’d or downloaded and watched later.  First up is tonight’s Invicta 5 online PPV, which at only $10 is hard to justify pirating, but it’s not piracy when you can just wait till they put it on YouTube themselves.  Then tomorrow brings UFC on Fuel 9: Sweet Sassy vs Swedish Guy, with its Facebook prelims kicking off at 10:50 AM EST, which will have us westside fans munching on bacon n’ eggs and coffee instead of nachos and beer.

Around the same time as the UFC, there’s another overseas show that’s much more appealing to those to hate grappling, as Glory 6 goes down in Istanbul.  The main event rematch of Daniel Ghita vs Gokhan Saki are the only big names on this card, but judging by the last Glory event, it should still be decent overall.  These two previously met in the quarterfinals of the K-1 World Grand Prix 2010, where Saki emerged from a 4th sudden death round with the unanimous decision (video after the jump), only to be destroyed by Ubereem in the semis.  Both guys lost their last fights to Semmy Schilt at Glory 4‘s crazy “16 guys 1 night” tournament, Saki by decision in the semis and Ghita by TKO in the final.  So neither is likely to get a shot at Schilt’s yet-to-be-defended belt with a win here (at least not with Tyrone Spong seemingly lined up for that) but it’s still a clash of top-5 kickboxers that promises to bring the heat.

The online PPV starts at 1PM EST, or on a myriad of obscure cable channels, including the Fight Network in Canada.
