You may remember Hector Lombard as the judoka who was supposed to fight Karo Parisyan back in New Jersey, before US Immigrations realized he was a dirty evil Cuban communist and denied his visa to fight in America. We all hoped at the time that it was a temporary setback and that with a bit more effort Lombard would be able to fight for the UFC. But unfortunately that’s not the case, because now Lombard has signed with EliteXC.
The big question mark I’m wondering about is if Lombard is actually going to be fighting for EliteXC or if he’ll be fighting for one of ProElite’s international promotions like Cage Rage or Hardcore Fighting Championships (has that been officially announced yet???). Apparently, getting a Cuban into America is still pretty hard unless he arrives on a makeshift raft off the coast of Florida. But considering the trouble Gary Shaw has gone through in the past to get fighters to their events, it wouldn’t surprise me if he gives that method a shot.
