Epic battle of the wackypants

“Sake-Man thrusts his groin in your direction!  Oh yeah!”

As we mentioned last week, Dream lightweight champion Shinya Aoki has been added to the “Strikeforce: Diaz vs Daley” card on April 9th.  But instead of going for a “classic striker versus grappler” matchup with KJ Noons, they’ve apparently decided to give him an opponent that’s more up his alley, as stateside sources have confirmed a Japanese report that he will instead face fellow gay-pants aficionado Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm.  Unfortunately, those sticks-in-the-mud that we call athletic commissions typically don’t allow the full-length colourful hosiery that Aoki sports in Japan, so here’s hoping he comes up with something better than the pathetically plain Tapout shorts he wore in the Melendez fight.

Beerbohm is coming off his hard-fought first loss against Pat Healy a couple weeks ago, while Aoki is probably still recovering from getting ” target=”_blank”>KTFO’d by a cross-dresser on New Year’s Eve.  Beerbohm/Healy turned out to be quite the grappling scrap, but if a guy like Healy can almost sub him at least twice, I have to think the odds are on Aoki’s side if/when the fight hits the mat.  Beerbohm might be wise to keep it standing where he has the striking advantage, though his stand-up isn’t exactly awesome either.  So hopefully this doesn’t become one of those fights where two grapplers decide to engage in 15 minutes of shitty kickboxing… knock on wood.

At this point in their careers i would give Aoki the advantage in the stand up realm seeing as Beerbohms first reaction to getting punched is to single leg you into the cage for the next 30 seconds.

Nice work on finding a decent pic of Aoki that I haven’t seen before.

    He is exaggerating his girth.

I’d kind of like to see Aoki get a slick sub win in Amurica. But it’s cool if he cries too.
