By now, you all know that the Fightlinker / Cage Potato ipecac bet ended with a very anti-climactic tie of 19-19 (damn you Wanderlei for being TOO GOOD). Being the fucking geniuses we are, we didn’t make any kind of plan to deal with the effects of a tie. On the night of the event, Jake and I drunkenly announced that BOTH parties should have to drink ipecac. However, once we sobered up we decided against it, and here’s why:
1) Ambushing the Cage Potato guys last-second with a shady interpretation of the rules is a good way to make sure other websites will never agree to more bets with us down the line. Since we really enjoy making people put their money/health/dignity where their mouths are, this just isn’t an acceptable repercussion.
2) Ben at Cage Potato really doesn’t want to drink ipecac. And for that specific reason we really want to make him drink it, fair and square. More than that, we want to BEAT the guys at Cage Potato. We want them to woe the day they agreed to this bet, and we want to come out of this competition having cleary won.
So with that in mind, we have decided that ROUND 2 will occur in 10 days, at UFC85. The 3-point system stays in effect, with tie-breaker rules that go as follows: who has the most perfect 3 point fights, and if that’s a tie too then who picked the most winning fighters. If both these backups result in another tie, then God is sending us a message that he wants us both to drink ipecac, and we shall comply with His wishes.
As for those who played along in the forums to win the $100 free play from BetUS, we have a tie for first place: both catch and fightfan earned a score of 21. Fightfan pulled off 5 perfect 3-point fights, while catch correctly predicted the winner of every single fight except Gouveia/Relejic. Forum contest rules say that 3-point fights make Fightfan the winner, but we’re in touch with BetUS to figure out a second place prize for catch.
Thanks to everyone who participated and/or followed along with this, we smashed traffic records for the play by play and got a lot of mail from people who said UFC 84 was way more fun to watch because of the Ipecac bet. We want to thank BetUS for encouraging everyone to play along, and we hope you’ll bear with us as we bring this bet to a conclusive end in 10 days!
