Erick Silva Comments On Loss To Matt Brown: “I Let (My Fans) Down”

Matt Brown

Erick Silva engaged in one of the more memorable rounds in UFC history over the weekend against Matt Brown, nearly defeating the top welterweight contender at UFC Fight Night 40.

Silva, though, was unable to stop Brown’s win streak, as “The Immortal” finished him in the third and earned his seventh straight victory.

The Brazilian dominated the opening five minutes, catching Brown with a stiff kick to the stomach area that dropped him. Silva pounced, attempting to secure a rear-naked choke.

After the battle, he was carried out of the Octagon on a stretcher and taken to a nearby hospital for further examination. UFC president Dana White initially believed Silva may have suffered a concussion and a possible fractured jaw, but he escaped without serious injury.

On Twitter, he offered his thoughts on the contest, stating, “At first, I would like to thank the people that supported me and stopped by to watch the fight. I know I let them down.

“I have no excuses, I know that I’m behind these tough guys but I will always accept fighting regardless of the opponent or my possible win or loss. I know that many will criticize but I’ll not give up and I’ll be back soon.”

Silva (16-5) was seeking his first UFC win streak, but dropped to 4-4 overall with the promotion. Earlier this year, he stopped Takenori Sato via first round TKO after falling to Dong Hyun Kim last October.

Since coming to the UFC in 2011, Silva has defeated Luis Ramos by knockout, lost to Carlo Prater via disqualification, submitted Charlie Brenneman, dropped a decision to Jon Fitch and submitted Jason High.
