Everyone’s afraid of Evan Tanner

It looks like Evan Tanner has ended his general media blackout, because he just did an interview with the guys from MMAJunkie. No word on if the interview cost them a bottle of Jack Daniels or enrollment in Team Tanner, but however they swung it, I’m impressed. I’ve been sending Tanner’s MySpace 20 messages a week trying to get him to talk to us. Of course, most people know by now that by participating on the site you open yourself up to even more ridicule than you’d get if you just stayed the fuck away. We do it to ourselves, people :(

One of the interesting tidbits of info to come out of the MMAJunkie piece was that the UFC is apparently having trouble lining up an opponent for Tanner:

MMAJUNKIE.COM: But you said they’re having a hard time finding an opponent?

EVAN TANNER: Yes, they’ve offered the fight to four guys — four guys who have made a name for themselves in the division. Those four guys have all turned it down, so they’re still looking.

I suppose I can understand … defeat Tanner, and people will just say he was washed up anyways. But if Tanner comes back ready to beat you like he beat alcoholism, then you’re gonna get whupped, and badly. So there’s very little upside for all the risk you take in fighting him.

Of course, the fact that i ‘understand’ won’t stop me from calling out the guys who didn’t accept the Tanner fight. My bet is it was all TUF guys … Starnes, Leben, Grove, Herman. Yeah, you guys! While I have absolutely no evidence you were the ones who pussied out, I’m going to just assume it was you. Fucking pussies. As for who’s gonna end up in the Octagon against our boy, here’s my prediction: Alan Belcher steps up to the plate.

  • Neo Spyro

Hey Link, my wife caught a glimpse of you in your grape-laden pose…she nearly dropped the baby.

  • Nate

Belcher is going to be fighting Ricardo Almeida. I think Herman should man up and take the task.

  • Jersey Tomato

Say what you will about the crazy boozer, he was always entertaining to watch. He was one fighter never afraid to “bring it on!!” I have no idea who he will eventually fight but your calling out the TUF boys (while completely unfounded) is interesting. I do believe your theory about Tanner being a No Win situation has some merit.

  • Wu Tang

My beloved Okami? What? Yea thats right, Okami, he should fight Tanner (i love him too, awesome dude), but for a comeback fight, they should put Okami vs Tanner.

  • Nate

The upside is you just beat the former UFC middleweight champion. That says alot, although he was the champ before the TUF noob generation, so no one cares or knows.

  • Atom

I agree with Wu Tang, Tanner vs. Okami seems to fit. But I don’t also don’t think Okami should be scheduled for the televised portion of a card ever again, so who knows.

  • Pontus

Tanner vs the Pacific round 2.

  • Kalak

Can´t wait to see Tanner fight. I hope he´s training like a madman, or else I could see him take a serious beating. UFC has evolved since he went away – I hope he´s painfully aware of that, only way he´s going to be ready for a comeback.

When is Martin Kampmann back? Tanner vs. Kampmann could make sense for both fighters.

  • RT

“When is Martin Kampmann back? Tanner vs. Kampmann could make sense for both fighters.”
that fight makes sense to me both coming off a lay off looking for a win.

  • Higgz

I think this “Tanner’s Road to a Comeback” is going to be short lived. He’s 36 and hasn’t been training regularly for the past 2 years. I would LOVE to be wrong about this though.

  • Manni G

to the two retards talking about herman and leben fighting their all boy you jack off’s that be like hughes fighting lawler at 170 not gonna happen

  • dignan

That pussy Starnes must’ve been one of the guys. His axe gash must still be healing that fucktard.

Belcher is the shit – him vs. Tanner would be a war!

  • Neo Spyro

I really feel for the guy. It seems the only thing keeping him from falling further is his hope of hanging on in the UFC…unfortunately, i don’t see that going much further. I predict a 1-3 record.

  • Lifer

belcher will showcase his ‘flex really hard, smile and ignore pain’ technique again. that shit had me on the edge of my seat.

  • Jester

Belcher will have the honor of Ricardo Almeida breaking his arm off and feeding it to him. Tanner should go to rehab and then the retirement home, I honestly don’t see him competing at a higher level in the UFC and if he fails he will probally just fall back into alcoholism leading to another series of drunken ramble blogs were he says he wants to change his life.
