Fedor fighting on NYE … for reals, this time

I know I’ve been jerking you guys around with fake Fedor news lately (or was it fake!?!? YOU DECIDE!). But take a look at this, and YES … it is real:

The first M-1 Global event will take place in Japan, Saitama Super Arena on December, 31!

No one other than four times Pride Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko will fight in the main event.

Sure, there’s millions of questions that need to be asked … how smart is it to throw together an event last second in Japan? How are these guys planning on pulling this off when they haven’t managed to get anything substantial off the ground in America? But honestly, this news has tapped into the eager beaver fight fan in me: Who the fuck cares about the business side! More fights! Fedor fights! Oh happy happy joy joy!

Let’s ignore the number of New Year events in Japan that have gone down in flames and destroyed promotions and careers! Lets not question which shady individuals will be running things behind the scene. And let’s hold our breath in the hopes that the rest of the lineup will look like a cross between a Bodog and HDNet card.

For now, and for one time only, I’m going to give M-1 the benefit of the doubt and say “I hope this is going to be something really good”.

    Fucking A!!!
Fedor in Santa costume Vs 5 Sumo midget wrestlers in Elves suits.

  • michael

Fightlinker is the first to post it. Congrats!

P.S.They try to sign 6 sumo-wrestlers, not 5, your source is wrong, igorpunck.

“No one other than four times Pride Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko will fight in the main event.”

Fedor to fight.. HIMSELF?! OH EM GEE!

  • Kris

No official announcement on the US M-1 Global Website yet.

  • cheezeypoof

Lol Lifer, I was going to say the same thing.

  • Lifer

They finally found a worthy opponent.

  • ajadoniz

true that. who better and more qualified to fight the all-mighty Fedor than Fedor himself. That’s going to make millions. I wonder how long they had this plan, probably long enough to have been able to make a clone of Fedor and genetically engineered him to grow three times as fast and to teach him everything Fedor already knew. No wonder the genetics field in science is advancing so fast, those crazy fucking Russians!

  • stellar53

Unless he fights someone worthy, which really means unless he fights Barnett I am not at all interested in this fight….

  • Xavier

This is good. I see future.

Fedor fights lower ranked fighter. As he is Pride fighter (and thus, tremendously overrated, I mean he couldn’t even finish fucking Cro Cop and Kongo can. Kongo > Fedor because MMAmath is not always inherently bad, as the idiots on Sherdog would have you believe) he will lose via either head kick in first round or patented ‘rasslin lay’n’pray. Randy Couture aka Captain Cockface, watches fight and cries when he sees his hero lose, finally realizing that someone else already got to the overhyped Fedor first before he could.

This ruins Randy’s plan to be internet legend forevers. The internet will also be out for two whole days due to the water generated by crying fanboy bitches.

Randy then contacts Dana, they hug, and he goes on to fight ol’ Minotauro. Then, all becomes right in the world once more.

    December 31….2008!!!! Hehe.

Anyone think this has anything to do with Randy Couture coming back to the negotiating table? Here’s another, more likely, conspiracy theory:

    Consider the following coincidences:

    1. Fedor is fighting in a New Year’s show in Super Saitama Arena in Japan
    2. The decision was made on very short notice, making it unlikely that M-1 Global had time to put together a show from scratch
    3. The arena is already booked for the date by the Japanese Hustle ( pro-wrestling promotion
    4. Dream Stage Entertainment owned both Hustle and PRIDE before PRIDE was sold to Zuffa
    5. Hugely popular Top 10 lightweight Shinya Aoki recently announced that he will fight again in a New Year’s show and that “we will start a revolution”

This seems to imply that former PRIDE staffers are trying to revive PRIDE by bootstrapping off of the successful Hustle pro-wrestling promotion. This could work out very well in Japan as a show with a mixture of pro-wrestling and mixed martial arts bouts.

    What do you think?

What a clusterfuck M1 seems to be:
“Brian Patton, vice president of M-1 Global, however, denied any knowledge of the fight.
“The team is in Japan right now, but it is in regards to a fight in the spring. To my knowledge, Fedor is not fighting in Japan in December. Unless things have changed since our last conference call, but that was not the goal when the team left for Japan.
“There is the possibility of us doing something in Japan in May or June and that’s what (the team) was headed to Japan for.”
Patton also stated, “(M-1 Global) knows nothing about the MFC M-1 site, meaning we are not in charge of it.
“We are hoping to announce our first fight by Dec. 1.””

No wonder Dana didn’t wanna deal with Fedor and his management team…

sonzai, Cox isn’t aware of the fight? I guess the real CEO is Fedor and friends. Red Devils FTW (for the wreck).

“..Fedor fighting on NYE … for reals, this time..”

    Not for reals.

Good call Kris #4, early on with the doubt.

It wont be for M-1 Global if he does fight, which he probably won’t. Fedor hype is is dwindling fast.
