Was early November a smokescreen date to keep the UFC from dropping another live Fight Night on Affliction? If it was, then the plan worked: word has just come out that the new promotion’s second show will be on October 11th, a few weeks after a UFC Fight Night is already booked and one week before the UFC heads to England again (also possibly on Spike). Will this prevent Dana White from pulling another live show out of his ass? I really don’t know at this point. But it’s certainly going to stretch the UFC very thin if they try.
The headlining bout? Fedor vs Arlovski. While this is definately a fight people are most hyped about seeing following their respective performances last weekend, I have to wonder about the sanity of booking two guys who need subtitles against eachother. Then again considering Tim Sylvia was literally window dressing to Fedor’s return, perhaps it won’t be that big of a deal.
The event is happening in Vegas at the Thomas and Mack center, and depending on who they put Barnett against, I might just have to hold up a convenience store to make sure I can get there. Goddamn it, the financial future for Affliction still looks bleak, but at this point the promise of more good fights means I just don’t give a shit about that very much any more.
