Diaz & Strikeforce are in a committed relationship

Despite recent rumours that Nick Diaz has been considering dumping Strikeforce for the somewhat older but still hotter and more dependable UFC, in the end Strikeforce was able to win his heart. Strikeforce announced yesterday that they and Nick Diaz have renewed their vows and pledged to stick together for at least another couple years.
Now riding an 8-fight winning streak that stretches back to his 2007 loss by cuts to Michael Knight KJ Noons, Diaz (23-7) will make his second title defence against Cyborg Santos (18-13) (the one who was born a man) on January 29th. Notice I said “make” rather than “attempt” because let’s be honest here, Cyborg ain’t taking this one. Like Diaz, Cyborg TKO’d head-kick specialist Marius Zaromskis in the first round… but unlike Diaz, Cyborg has won only 4 of his last 8 scraps, and has now picked up back-to-back wins for the first time since 2006. I predict Cyborg will come out swinging for the fences like he always does, and Diaz will swat him in the face like an angry cat until he falls over, likely within the first two rounds.
In a just slightly more competitive match on the same night, Strikeforce 185-lb champ Jacare Souza (13-2) will attempt to defend his title for the first time against Robbie Lawler (18-6). Lawler is coming fresh off his first round paralyzation of Matt Lindland on December 4th, but is only 2-2 in his last 4, and one of those was a hail-mary knockout of Melvin Manhoef right in the middle of getting his own ass kicked. Meanwhile, Jacare hasn’t lost since eating an upkick from Sweet Sassy at DREAM 6 back in 2008, which was only the second fail on his entire record. On paper, this may look like it’s all Jacare, but something tells me to not count Lawler out.
Also on the card, Roger Gracie (3-0) will fight for only the 4th time against seasoned veteran and celebrity chef impersonator Trevor Prangley (23-6-1), while Herschel Walker (1-0) will face something called a Scott Carson (4-1) whose sole fight since 9/11 was a KO loss in the bush-leagues earlier this year. It’s enough to make you wonder if Scott Coker is part Japanese, ain’t it?December 29, 2010 at 4:35 pm #107893
he is either part asian or retardedDecember 29, 2010 at 7:02 pm #107906
Diaz likes being the big fish in a little pond. Seeing how he is one of the five fighters Strikeforce actually promotes. Good for him, better make sure he wins.December 29, 2010 at 7:16 pm #107909
Daley. if he learned anything from the Koscheck fight (other than not pussy punching) he could have Diaz’ number.December 29, 2010 at 8:12 pm #107922
I’d like to see Diaz get better competition. Other than Daley not much else to look forward to.December 29, 2010 at 10:36 pm #107934
^Dailey and Woodley would make for interesting back to back title defences, beyond that I have no ideia.December 29, 2010 at 11:39 pm #107943
^ That’s like saying GSP fighting Trigg (I’m thinking of people Koscheck has beaten to match Daley) and Rick Story back to back is interesting. Diaz should be proving it against the sharks, not feeding on the minnows.December 29, 2010 at 11:47 pm #107945
True, but come on, it’s not like they got a huge selection of badasses to choose from. To use your aquarium analogy, the Strikeforce roster consists of one or two small-ish sharks at the top, then a few ill-tempered sea bass, and then a couple of those things with the sucker mouths that clean the glass.December 30, 2010 at 12:43 am #107952
Semtex would murder Trigg, he was a fight away from fighting for the belt and he KO’ed Kampmann who Shields later beat to earn his shot, so he’s legit. As for Woodley you’re right but he’s the best strikeforce has to offer and makes for an interesting style matchup.December 30, 2010 at 12:55 am #107958
i thought hershel isn’t fighting carson anymore?December 30, 2010 at 12:56 am #107960
haha i like how he politely and gently sets lindlands legs down in that gif.December 30, 2010 at 3:40 am #107996
who of any quality had daley beaten? kampmann and halzlet?December 30, 2010 at 4:06 am #107999
But, but, but, he almost beat KOS.December 30, 2010 at 4:37 am #108005
His wins were good enough for him to fight for a shot at GSP. He would beat alot more ufc ww if Dana hadn’t grown a vagina and kicked him out for punching Koscheck in the face.December 30, 2010 at 5:09 am #108010
He’s going to get beat by most competent grapplers. Ring a bell?
