If we’re going to publicize it when fighters fuck up, we should also publicize when they don’t:
All fighters selected to undergo drug testing at last month’s UFC 102 event successfully passed their tests.
MMAjunkie.com requested the results soon after the show concluded on Aug. 29 at the Rose Garden Arena in Portland, Ore. And the Oregon State Athletic Commission on Friday announced the results.
Six of the night’s 22 fighters, including headliners Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Randy Couture, were chosen for testing.
Other tested fighters included Chris Leben, Aaron Simpson, Todd Duffee and Evan Dunham. (Because Leben was fighting for the first time since a failed drug test at UFC 89, he underwent testing before and after UFC 102.)
Not only did the two headliners pass – one wracked by a brutal career, one 46 years old – but so did a previous offender in Leben, a freak of nature in Duffee and two guys with nothing to lose but everything to gain by cheating. I hate hate HATE the idea that ‘they all do it.’ No, they fucking don’t. Don’t tar the fighters that have never tested positive by lumping them in with those that have – and be thankful that the most powerful organization in MMA drug tests regularly.
