Golden Glory wants to patch stuff up with Zuffa

There’s a new update to the Alistair Overeem / Golden Glory / UFC trifecta of annoyingness, and it’s actually somewhat positive sounding! Golden Glory guy Bas Boon has released a statement that seems pretty damned concilliatory. He also reveals what is probably the real reason the UFC spazzed out and fired everyone: business dealings that would have made Golden Glory a competitor to the UFC.

Behind the scene I was preparing a great deal for corporation between Strikeforce, Dream, K-1 and Glory to do something great together with Scott ( this included a tv channel and footage deal). I introduced Scott thru a partner of mine in LA to some powerful people in the US (Scott was very surprised after this meeting and exited and mailed me after his meeting with these people how impressed he was). I never could have guessed that at the same moment I was talking to Scott to make a massive move for becoming a real competitor to the UFC, Scott was already talking with the same UFC for selling Strikeforce.

Anyway we regret the response from Zuffa and the releases, but it is their company and they can do what they want, we would like to keep working in the future with the UFC and with this statement I cleary say that direct payment to any of our fighter was not a problem and will not be a problem in the future.

The TL;DR of all this is Golden Glory will happily take payment however Zuffa wants, would like Alistair Overeem in the UFC if the price is right (and are even willing to sign an exclusive contract), and wants to continue working with Zuffa so their fighters can compete in the UFC and Strikeforce.

As for whether they’re backing off on those plans to start throwing events in the US … no clear word yet. And that’s the big question right there. You’ll remember the flame out between Affliction and the UFC as soon as the UFC heard Affliction was planning on throwing some events. Yeah. The UFC isn’t interested in helping anyone make money that could then be used to compete against them.

    FIX IT.

    hopefully this happens and soon.

Golden Glory has learned their lesson, hopefully Lorenzo will handle the reconsiliation process.

Yes massa Dana sir! Can we lick dem shoes for your massa?

I hope they sort it out – I’d like to see Uber versus Kongo Slice.  Ooh-ooh!  And I wanna see what happens when he fights Mir.  I know he won’t wanna get to the ground, but will he let him tee-off like Werdum did while trying to defend the TD?  Mir won’t flop and will gladly throw on a guy who just covers up as if he’s got 14-ouncers on.

Mir can’t take a shot and his TDs are weak. Reem should fold him like a cheap lawn chair.

I think we’d all like to see Overeem in the UFC but Jordan Breen went into some more detail about what caused the strain in the UFC-GG relationship (don’t remember exactly where, maybe on Gross’ podcast) and I get the UFC’s stance a lot more after hearing that.

Mir probably wins that fight in a hilarious fashion.  GG obviously didn’t think Zuffa had the balls to cut their roster, and now that that’s already happened, they want to make nice.

^Shocker. Mir only loses in hilarious fashion.

Mir isn’t going to flop to guard after the first punch and will work harder for takedowns. Not to mention is the most dangerous standup threat out of all the heavyweight bjj guys.

All Frank would have to do pressure Horsebeef in the first 2 rounds and should easily get a 29-28 decision. Alistair is an exciting fighter but I greatly doubt his heart and don’t see him having the bullying rassling that usually stifles a guy like Mir.

^ Except that everyone knows that all you have to do to make Mir crumble is go straight at him, bully him, and put leather on his face.  All five of his losses are by (T)KO.

And Uber’s shown he’s hesitant to go after BJJ guys, is what I think everyone’s getting at. I don’t think it’d look like the Werdum fight, but it could resemble it in some respects with less flopping.

And if not, we get to watch Mir get smashed: win-win.
