I wouldn’t go so far as to say Strikeforce’s December 4th show has been decimated by injuries – I save that word for UFC clusterfucks with 8+ pullouts. But the removal of one key fighter and some important side matches certainly hasn’t helped the card much. Here’s what it’s currently looking like:
Dan Henderson vs. Renato Sobral
Robbie Lawler vs. Matt Lindland
Paul Daley vs. Scott Smith
Herschel Walker vs. Scott Carson
Valentijn Overeem vs. Antonio Silva
Jesse Finney vs. Whoever
Herschel Walker was cut in training and had to get stitches, while Alistair Overeem’s equally beefy bro Valentijn is out with an elbow injury. Compared to those two, the loss of regional fighter Jesse Finney might seem like less of an issue but that ignores the fact that Finney is Strikeforce’s main man in St Louis for drawing the local crowd.
So far, the only replacement fight set up is between Finney campmate Lucas Lopes and long-time-no-see Strikeforce slugger Benji Radach – not a bad fight at all. Word is no one decent is willing to step in and face Bigfoot Silva on such short notice, and as far as Herschel Walker’s opponent Scott Carson… well, let’s just say finding him a replacement isn’t exactly much of a priority.
