As it starts to get more support, women’s MMA is going to continue to draw in high level female athletes from other sports. Olympic freestyle wrestling silver medalist Sara McMann will be making her MMA debut next Friday in South Carolina, and I just found out that judo bronze medalist Ronda Rousey is also prepping to step into the cage as well.
Not only did Rousey win that bronze in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but at 17 she was also the youngest judoka on the 2004 Olympic team. She’s currently training at Gokor Chivichyan’s Hayastan academy (Gokor trained Karo Parisyan and Manvel Gamburyan), and you can see how that’s working out in the above video. Don’t worry about figuring out which girl is the judo whiz, it’ll become very obvious after a few seconds of watching.
