Well, my hat is off to the UFC. For all the keyboard kommentating prior to the event that MMA is over saturated and UFC75 wasn’t getting any mainstream attention, they sure did pull a pretty impressive number of viewers:
UFC 75 was the most watched mixed martial arts event ever in North America, drawing 4.7 million viewers, Spike TV officials said in a news release Tuesday.
The Sept. 8 event from the O2 Arena in London, England, featured UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson (Pictures)’s win over PRIDE champ Dan Henderson (Pictures) in a title unification bout. Airing delayed on Spike, the telecast peaked at 5.6 million viewers during Jackson’s battle against Henderson.
It was a damned good card to top out with too … a solid 5 round bout between Quinton Jackson and Dan Henderson plus some sick wins from Marcus Davis, Houston Alexander, and Jess Liaudin. From a casual point of view I dunno how the whole Hamill screwjob went over, but you have to imagine all those white collar slaves working 9-5 were talking about it by the water cooler on Monday.
