The UFC just bought Strikeforce :-O
First thing they need to do it get rid of there commentators other then pat
nothing to change as of yet according to dana
Best, news, evAr.
Had to check the date on 2 different calenders, it’s not april fools hoomies, HOLY FUCKING SHIT ON MY HEAD!!!! This is INSANITY!!!!
a big non story if what Dana says has any truth to it, no big year end superfight show is very disapointing.
It is really dissapointing that the fighters aren’t doing an instant shuffle
Jacare, Diaz, Overeem all need to be moved over.
^Have you learned nothing from history? They bought PRIDE, took the fighters they wanted, and killed it. They bought WEC, kept it around for a few years, and took the fighters they wanted. They will keep strikeforce for maximum 2 years, then take the fighters they want.
Absolutly will happen but not instantly like with Pride, WFA and such
In the Ariel interview he said people with the Strikeforce contract will continue under the Strikeforce contract as usual and only when those fight contracts are up the UFC will take the fighters. So it means that Diaz’s new contract is keeping him there for a while and not too sure on the status of Overeem’s or Jacare’s
^Sure, but they can do whatever the hell they want. I mean, they said they were going to keep PRIDE alive and fighters were still under contract that they didn’t honor.
I think an interesting immediate question is what happens with Daley’s ban from Zuffa? I mean, i called BS from the start, but i want to see what uncle dana has to say about that.
first sengoku dead then strikeforce
@YEAH RIGHT, Dana said that he’s still in strikeforce and he’s gonna honor that contract and it’s up to Scott on Paul’s contract but as for now that contract is staying. Right now the UFC and Dana are promoting the shit outta the Diaz and Paul fight and they will run a commercial on the UFC 128 broadcast…
Dana did also add that Paul is free to fight in Strikeforce all he wants, but he’ll never fight in the UFC again. BUUUUT, when Dana was talking about Paul he did hold back and pick his words carefully, he didn’t go to say that he doesn’t like Paul or any sort of personal attack, he just said that he can’t condone what Paul did. So my feeling Dana’s leaving it open for him to go back on his word and maybe in a year you’lll see Semtex back in the UFC.
This can’t be good for women’s MMA…
the pride situation and the strikeforce situation are very far apart, one was a 90% dead organization run by criminals and the other is run by a 90% retarded guy from san jose
they’d better keep the fucking womens’ divisions. Also…LOLOLOLOL M-1!!! Ha ha ha, you got outmaneuvered like a motherfucker
the big question here is, will subo’s raging boner over this be tempered at all by the fact that Josh Barnett is now under Zuffa contract? lawlz
this will probably be awful for women as well as Fedor, Barnett and others in Dana’s shit book that I’m forgetting, not to mention that if Dana lives up to his word at all the Diaz vs Daley fight will be canceled and Daley with be “let go”
hope they merge them asap,
the wec merger has been so good for the LW div making it really exciting to see where people stand in the division with all the new talent.
Strikeforce has a hanful of talenetd guys and has never even had clear top 5’s in each division – hopefully the top few are kept and promoted – and get a chance to solidify their names as top in the world – overeem, diaz, jacare – would love to see roger, hendo, fedor, fejou in the mix of their divisions too
Now bring on these fights we really want… GSP vs Nick Diaz, The Reem vs Cain Velasquez, Fedor vs Brock Lesnar, Gilbert Melendez vs Frankie Edgar… Man, I’m so pumped by this news!!!
Holy shit at this news, as far as what division will recieve the biggest improvement in my opinion 185 will finally start to get some legit depth. there will probably be another fight for the troops card headlined with Stann vs Kennedy, can’t wait for Maia vs Jacare, Manhoef vs Wand, Mayhem vs Bisping, Santiago vs Lawlor and the list goes on.
It will be interesting to see how things play out. I hope they keep them (UFC and SF) separate and occasionally stage a “super fight”.
I’m excited about this.
the good fights apparently wont be happening for years. all this means is no serious options for fighters when their contracts are up and more money in Zuffa’s pockets there is no plus for the fans if Dana is telling the truth, because nothing we see is going to change.
So if everything remains the same does that mean that they will still be copromoting with M1 during Fedor events. I doubt it more than likely Fedor will be told to fuck off and you can take your pimp Fink with you ya filthy fuckin whore cuz you’re all used up.
so nice you said it thrice
no serious options for fighters when their contracts are up and more money in Zuffa’s pockets there is no plus for the fans if Dana is telling the truth, because nothing we see is going to change.
welcome to capitalism, would you like a side of fries with that
hopefully dana gets someone more capable to run strikeforce now zuffa could lose money on cockless not being able to coordinate anything,
just merge em already, stop blueballsing the fans
They have been assimilated. Resistance was amusing.
Hopefully cocker will be less useless at his job now that he has some competent people with experience of not fucking up promotions around him, instead of just old EliteXC staff.
Zzzzzzzz this move is like Apple buying Opera to gain 3 mobile browser patents to add to the 500 they already have.
Infrastructure and ego.
I’m pretty bummed that fighters are going to have a lot less leverage in negotiations now after Zuffa bought out Strikeforce and DREAM and Sengoku took a dirt nap (it’s not official but they’re pretty much dead). At the end of the day though, Strikeforce, DREAM and Sengoku have no one to blame but themselves for their mismanagement issues. No one is stopping someone from starting a new organization that could act as a clear #2. But they have to make sure they have the right business plan so that they can stay in business. That’s the problem. We need a #2 to compete with the UFC but we need competent guys who know the business behind the helm. Scott Coker did very well running Strikeforce as a regional show. But then he got in bed with those idiots at Showtime and M-1 and he tried to expand too fast too soon and things went to shit.
I think the key to building up to that #2 spot is baby steps (and a lot of financial backing). Start out local or regional. Sign guys who can bring a lot of asses in seats locally and regionally. Try to build a profitable system at a local/regional level. And then inch closer and closer to a more national level (that’s where the big financial backing comes in. But even if Mark Cuban wrote you a check for $44 million, you still gotta manage that money properly and not just squander it all). Strikeforce, Elite XC, Affliction, WFA, etc. were basically just signing a bunch of big-name independents but they weren’t able to generate enough dollars to cover their price tag. They may have name value but they aren’t profitable assets to invest in (at least not without a strong brand name backing them and a well-oiled marketing machine. Many of these guys were stars back in the UFC and PRIDE but they had the brand and marketing machine backing them up. That’s why they were profitable assets. Without the brand and proper marketing machine, a lot of these big-name free agents aren’t worth the investment).
It’s the same with DREAM and Sengoku. They were investing all sorts of money in big name Japanese and gaijin talent. But what’s the point of having all these names if they can’t cover the costs? Start small, get to a profitable position, then try to take more risks (ie. sign some big names). If that works, sign more. If not, cut the dead weight (I’m suspecting Fedor was the dead weight) and sign some other guys that can bring in the dollars.
less leverage? The only fighter who didnt suck and went to strikeforce on their own accord was dan henderson.
Once Strikefroce tried to match the UFC like EXC did and once it got Faildor on board I think it started writting checks its ass didnt want to nor could cash. From what i can gather the other owners of Strikeforce didnt want to expand but Coker did. They just were into making some extra cash but expansion would probably lead to some short falls for a few years.
Strikeforce is better off with the backing of a company that wants to see MMA do well rather than just well enough to be in the black.
well there was one other person… http://a323.yahoofs.com/ymg/ept_sports_mma_experts__21/ept_sports_mma_experts-812937213-1277611535.jpg?ymPIGXDDpMQbixV3
at the time he left he sucked enough to get cut, though it probably had to do with him wanting more money than he was worth
He didn’t get cut, though. Yeah, he wanted more money.
Showtimes contract with SF is over in 9 months, if i had a guess, i would say SF dies in 10 months.
Where did you get that time line for SF’s contract with Showtime?
I think Dana said there were two years left in the contract.
yeah right where did you hear he wasnt cut since as far as i can figure out he was. He didnt even know about it until after it happened.
Technically, they didn’t cut Werdum. He fulfilled all the fights on his contract and they didn’t re-sign him. It was more of a back handed cut.
He was cut but not for sucking. If I remember correctly his sister was managing him and she “tried” to bully the UFC into negotiating on her terms. It was after his JDS loss. We all know what happens when someone tries to strong arm the UFC. He was 2-2 at the time in the UFC but was 2-1 in his last 3. My source is someone that was directly involved in the negotiating. It was a few beers into our conversation, I don’t remember all the finer points. I also know that until he gets new management, the UFC will not talk to him. I don’t know if his sister is still swinging the schlong for him.
Talking about swinging schlongs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MakIB_IJnu0
I’m pretty elated that fighters have a lot less leverage during negotiations since the only reason fighters want leverage is to duck fights and hold out for more money.
I can’t wait until the UFC leverages (heh) this shit to force “friends” to fight each other.
I want Fitch vs Kos to the death, if one stalls he gets lit on fire. Winner takes on Paul Daley in a dance contest, they are forced to wear metal plated cloths while being shot at with incendiary ammo.
Clint, the hate is strong with you.
wtf does this site update once a week i want some thoughts on this and not just a link
^i remember when i didn’t have a life.
