Hostile takeover?

Interesting news from the land of M1 Global. The guys who run got the following news from an insider from (you guessed it) the Russian side of things:

      * Vadim Finkelstein became the president of the company (yes, we are talking about the M-1 Global, and not about the Russian M-1 company, which was under Finkelstein all the time) in the middle of February.
* M-1 Global Challenge is a product of Vadim Finkelstein and “the active and energetic part of M-1 Global” (which include all the European and Japanese people you can name as well as American Jerry Millen with his camera team).
* American people (Monte Cox, Mitchell Maxwell and others) are therefore considered to be not active and energetic. Moreover, without the transformations “this swamp with uncertainty about the format and the dates of the shows would just go on and on. ” Now they can finally move forward and “will do everything the can to make as much shows and fights as possible”.
* The future of American side is not known yet.

As this is just the POV from one side, I’d be very interested to know what the view is from the other side. Is this Vadim and his gang basically saying “You Americans ain’t doing shit, we’re taking over”? It certainly seems like they’re basically calling Cox and Maxwell as useful as a runner with no legs.

The most important one to watch for is the whole “I’m el presidente of M1 Global” claim. If the US side denies this then you know you’ve got a power struggle on your hands where the Russians are trying to seize control of M1 Global and oust the Americans rather than simply walk away and taking Fedor with them.

Regardless, it looks like just another chapter in the fucked up history between these guys.

  • FightStinker is RIGHT!

with a name like “cox” he should have known they would be getting dicked around.

M-1 needs to just stay in russia and forget about us crazy ass americans.

Lookes like Fedor picked himself a real winning organization. UFC has nothing on M-1 :P

I gotta ask Fedor for Saturdays Powerball numbers.

  • Captain

Goddamn Americans and their stupid desire to sign more than two fightters and have events organized more than a few weekds before they’re supposed to happen.

So when do we find out that M-1 is backed by the Russian Mob? Can we get a pool going?

  • Random Acts Of Kindness

The Russian’s can’t help it, tis just the way they approach things. Their brains run on Communism, vodka, and strife. Poor Monte Cox just bought into the Fedor hype and the dream of being UFC2. Hell, he probably even reserved the domain or some crap.

  • Higgz

I am beginning to side with Dana White on the whole, “Crazy Russians” allegation. While UFC contracts may be too restrictive for someone like Fedor, his managers suck arse!

  • Xavier

Monte Cox is reaping what he sowed by getting in bed with the Finklestein crew of clowns. Those guys are bonkers.

Nice to see M-1 have more troubles, they have done a nice job with their false promises of fucking up the entire MMA landscape so hopefully this joke collapses under the weight of all the associated egos running amok within it soon.

You have to remember that in Russia the business world is basically the wild west – anything goes, and really, what combat sport is not predominantly run by some form of organized crime?

All you have to do is read the posting by Bas Boon of Golden Glory on the fall of PRIDE re-posted at to know what Fedor’s management are like. They basically cut the wood, made the nails and put together PRIDE’s coffin all for their own self-interest. All that was needed after they were done was someone to actually put PRIDE in the coffin (Shukan Gendai) and that was it.
