While it’s pretty easy to just say Scott Ferrall sucks, Monsieur Sam Caplan takes another view of things:
Ferrall is great in the right role but putting him in as a ring announcer was short-sighted on the part of the organizers of YAMMA. To expect Ferrall to come in and play the role of traditional ring announcer — if that’s what they expected — was just unrealistic.
To think Ferrall wasn’t going to try and add his personal flair to the introductions in an attempt to make them more interesting is just ignorant. YAMMA is either at fault for not doing their homework or if they were familiar with Ferrall, then they are at fault for not casting him in a role that he was better suited for.
It’s not a bad point … booking Ferrall as a ring announcer would be like assembling a team of supermodels to dig ditches next to the highway. Sure it’s amusing for the first little while, but those ditches need digging or rain might condense on the road causing more accidents and shortening the lifecycle of the pavement by up to 30%!
Personally I hate Ferrall in every form he’s in … the guy’s voice is worse than the whine of a dentist’s drill for me. But I’m not going to argue with the huge number of people who tune into his radio show all the time. Some people like having sex with big fat chicks too. Different strokes for different folks.
