Last night Julia Budd learned the difference between kickboxing gloves and MMA gloves as Amanda Nunes dropped her under 10 seconds into their fight. A couple mean looking hammerfists later and Julia Budd is out as a challenger to Cris Cyborg, and Amanda Nunes is in.
It’s hard to say Nunes doesn’t have enough experience at 6-1 to face Cyborg considering a lot of top women are coming up with similar records. Hell, Julia Budd was on the path to Cyborg and she was a 1-0 MMA noob. But there’s also the size issue – Nunes seems like the latest challenger perfectly capable of dropping to 135 after crashing up against the great wall of Cyborg.
Still, she’s got quick hands and knockout power plus some okay BJJ chops. Cyborg hasn’t fought since June where she stuffed her fist down Jan Finney’s throat and yanked out her uterus. She needs feeding. Nunes seems like the most likely source of sustenance. So why not, I guess?
