I have no idea who’s going to win the Paul Daley vs Dustin Hazelett fight at UFC 108. That’s why I’m so excited about it. It’s yer classic striker vs grappler match up, and whoever manages to keep things in their realm is liable to win. One thing that worries me though is that Hazelett may be dumb enough to try and stand and bang with Daley. His teacher is Jorge Gurgel after all, plus I’ve been picking up some disturbing vibes floating between the lines of some of Dustin’s interviews.
“Being a grappler, my path of least resistance is almost always on the ground,” he stated. “With him being an excellent striker, his easiest path to victory is usually on the feet. But, it’s mixed martial arts. You have to be able to go anywhere and fight anywhere. I’ve been working a lot on my Muay Thai the last couple of years; I think it’s a good test for me.”
He tried to stand and bang with Koscheck and got iced for his troubles. Dustin isn’t terrible on his feet, but let’s not forget that he’s fighting Paul Fucking Daley. And Paul Fucking Daley is all about knocking people out. He’s so good at it that he’s overcome numerous attempts to sabotage his own career and a completely cack ground game. If Hazelett tries to be all well rounded and unpredictable in this fight, he’s gonna get his block knocked off.
