It’s about as official as it’s gonna get (until it becomes official)

If you had any tiny slivers of doubt that the rumored FOX / UFC tv deal wasn’t getting announced today, this should settle them:

In a gathering that’s widely expected to announce a deal  between FOX and the UFC, executives from the network channel today announced a press conference that takes place Thursday in Los Angeles.

A source close to the event told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) UFC executives Lorenzo Fertitta and UFC president Dana White are expected to attend.

Additionally, executives from FOX and its subsidiary FX will be present, and several UFC fighters may also tag along.

MMAWeekly.com reported earlier today that welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre and No. 1 light-heavyweight contender and former champ Rashad Evans are headed to the City of Angels to participate in the event.

Although White has denied a pending deal with the network, a source with knowledge of negotiations said the broadcast partnership is a done deal.

Man, to think Dana White wore Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon shirts for months …. all for nothing. Today at 1PM the big announcement will be made, and with that an inevitable exodus from the Land of Spike, where the UFC has lived since it emerged from the dark ages of the sport. Whether this deal takes us into a new era of MMA domination like Dana always promises us or not, we’ll have to wait and see. I gotta admit I’m a little scurred, son.

How long until Bellator gets on Spike?

  • CAP

How long until UFC buys Bellator? I almost wish they would just to get Alvarez and Lombard.

Man, I’m so excited for this. Been waiting a long time to see the #1 promotion get a shot at network TV.

Kimbo deserves to be on this card. Makes sense to put the top draw in mma network tv history back in network tv. Plus he just murdered a dude. Hes so hot right now.

Why does it seem like the entire MMA blogsphere is shitting themselves with fear over the UFC moving to a (truly) free TV network in Fox and FX which is much more popular and widely viewed than Spiketv? You don’t think ratings will skyrocket for a live event on Fox after they place a few commercials during the NFL season? You don’t think we’re going to see Jon Jones or GSP as a special guest judge on an episode American Idol? (Not that we’d actually see it because no one who likes MMA watches American Idol).

We’ve been bitching forever about wanting the UFC on a network and now that it’s happening suddenly we all become a bunch of babies crying “what if it doesn’t work out?” even though we’re finally getting exactly what we’ve been asking for.

Yeah I’m sure it will blow up but I bet there will be some backlash as well. I was watching the versus card and my mom was visiting (yes I made her watch it) and she had her reservations to watch. Then Jim Miller started bleeding and she got all squirly and did not stick around for any more. So those eyeballs will come across it as well. And you know cranky old people can bitch like no other. So expect some vocal opposition.

You have a point Cap, that has been Zuffa’s M.O. in regards to competition.

Makes me wonder if cashing out was Rebneys plan all along.
