What a sad state our superfight situation is in. Sure, we’ve got Anderson Silva’s rematch with Chris Weidman, which is super in that it’s interesting and actually happening. But the GSP vs Andy fight has completely dropped off everyone’s radar and here’s Jon Jones sounding oh so enthusiastic about the idea of fighting The Spider.
“I still believe Anderson can come back. He’s still has it and he just got caught basically. All Anderson has to do is win his next fight (Weidman rematch, UFC 168) decisively and there’s the interest right there. It’s still on, the superfight,” he says. “I’ve never really been overly anxious to face Anderson Silva though to be honest. I knew the fight could happen but I never had any desire to be the one to beat him or anything like that.”
He’s just the greatest fighter of our generation and the best champion the UFC has ever seen. Why would Jones want to fight someone like that? Y’know, challenge himself against the best in the world? Screw that. Jones would rather fight guys he’s a -800 favorite against. Gotta keep those easy paychecks coming in. Because the guy is more of a businessman than a fighter.
