Karo Parisyan made his triumphant return to the octagon at UFC 94 … triumphant because he didn’t have a mental breakdown and pull out of the fight last second. Oh, and he eked out a lackluster decision win over his opponent Dong Hyun Kim too. As pale a shadow as this was from the Karo we remember circa 2007, I was still happy to see him take a baby step back towards being awesome again in 2009.
Unfortunately now it looks like 2009 will not be that awesome of a year for Karo because he’s about to get hit with a suspension for painkillers. Karo says they were prescribed, the NSAC says that doesn’t matter, and Parisyan will now be facing a 6 month to 1 year suspension rather than a fight with Josh Koscheck as previously expected.
While it sucks that our favorite Armenian judoka is gonna get benched, I think it’s probably a blessing in disguise. He’ll have half a year to deal with his head, get back into proper shape, and to deal with a serious leg injury he never bothered to get fixed. THAT is what the doctor ordered. Not a guaranteed drubbing at the hands of Koscheck.
