LHW’s Davis, Teixeira Set For UFC 179

ufc 179

Officials have announced a previously reported co-main event fight for UFC 179 between light heavyweights Phil Davis and Glover Teixeira.

Set for October 25 from Brazil, the card features a main event between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes.

Davis (12-2) will be trying to bounce back after suffering a decision loss to Anthony Johnson earlier this year. “Mr. Wonderful” was hopeful that a victory over Johnson would propel him into a title shot, but he was dealt a completely one-sided defeat.

The former Penn State University wrestling standout earned a decision victory over ex-UFC champion Lyoto Machida the last time he stepped foot in Brazil to compete. His only other loss came at the hands of Rashad Evans, also a former UFC champion.

Teixeira (22-3) is also coming off a loss, as he was topped by light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. The Brazilian lost for the first time in six Octagon bouts.

Below is the current lineup for the card:

UFC Featherweight Championship
Jose Aldo (c) vs. Chad Mendes

Light Heavyweight: Phil Davis vs. Glover Teixeira

I wouldn’t take a fight against a very decent Brazilian fighter in Brazil, unless I was desperate.
And there’s no way in heck Brazilian flakeyness is going to fall into his lap twice like it did that one time if thats what he’s thinking.

The rumble loss didn’t set him that far back, but another top 10 loss already could be one too many too soon.
