M-1 gets a fighter on Strikeforce’s card

M-1 Global announces the fruit of sitting Fedor out earlier this year: an M-1 fighter on the Strikeforce Fedor vs Werdum card.

M-1Global welterweight Magomed Shihshabekov ( 11-0) is scheduled to make his STRIKEFORCE debut as a part of the June 26 STRIKEFORCE AND M-1GLOBAL present Fedor vs. Werdum undercard. Shihshabekov is scheduled to fight AKA fighter Ron Keslar (5-1) who enters the fight on a 4 fight winning streak.

As bitter as I am at M-1 over their negotiation hardball, Shihshabekov (or Shikhshabekov, according to everyone except M-1) looks pretty decent – he throws triangles around like they’re going out of style, and has a dickish, aggressive manner to him. I’d look forward to seeing him fight on June 26th, but does ‘undercard’ really mean the undercard or does it mean the prelim card? Strikeforce just sent out a press release of their own today officially announcing Cung Le vs Scott Smith and Josh Thomson vs Pat Healy. No mention of Shihshabekov there, and here’s how the card looks now:

  • Fedor Emelianenko vs. Fabricio Werdum
  • Cristiane Santos vs. Jan Finney
  • KJ Noons vs. Conor Heun
  • Cung Le vs. Scott Smith
  • Josh Thomson vs. Pat Healy
  • Magomed Shihshabekov vs. Ron Keslar

Hmmm. That’s six fights. Despite their ‘top notch second to none’ production values, I don’t think Showtime is gonna get all of them on the televised card. I wonder which fight of these could possibly end up off the televised portion? Thank Odin that Fedor and the gang sat out and made sure Strikeforce and Showtime would start including M-1 fighters on cards.
