Matt Hughes is back with another blog and in it he devotes a disgruntled sounding paragraph to his buddy Robbie Lawler getting taken off the Strikeforce Evolution card last minute:
Last week I was in California with Robbie, Pena, and Foster, hoping they would find a replacement so Robbie could fight. It didn’t happen and I guess I’m just spoiled being with the UFC. From what I understand, Showtime really likes to stick their nose in Strikeforce’s business and because of that I don’t think that Strikeforce will be around for much longer; but enough with that.
To be fair, Lawler’s opponent Trevor Prangley was injured three days before the event so that didn’t give Strikeforce much of a chance to do anything about it. Even the UFC probably would have done what they did with Dustin Hazelett: just pull him off the card. But you know how it is with these fighter types, they believe what they want to believe (or what Dana White says) and who cares about reality.
The big question is if Robbie is feeling just as sore about the situation as Matt is. Matt is pretty notorious for being a shit disturber and speaking his own mind, so it’s not a lock. On the other hand, the last we heard from Lawler he was sounding pretty non-plussed about basically being pushed into a catchweight bout with Jake Shields – his only fight of 2009 – so it’s not a stretch of the imagination to think he’s not too happy with how this year turned out for him.
*UPDATE* The jackals reminded me that the UFC didn’t ‘just’ pull Hazelett off the card, they paid him too.
