Matt Mitrione gets suspended for calling Fallon Fox a ‘disgusting freak’

I’m still pretty on the fence regarding this whole Fallon Fox fighting thing. But as far as I’m concerned, her status as ‘transgendered’ need only be discussed in the context of whether it gives her an unfair advantage in a dangerous sport. Past that, I consider her to be a woman and a normal human being who deserves to be treated with respect and common decency. Matt Mitrione takes a slightly less enlightened view on the subject:

“Maybe instead of being ‘the Queen of Swords,’ Fallon Fox should consider being “The King of the Buffalos,” he said.

“He’s chromosomally a man. He had a gender change, not a sex change. He’s still a man. He was a man for 31 years. Thirty-one years. That’s a couple years younger than I am. He’s a man. Six years of taking performance de-hancing drugs, you think is going to change all that? That’s ridiculous.

“That is a lying, sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak,” he continued. “And I mean that. Because you lied on your license to beat up women. That’s disgusting. You should be embarrassed yourself. And the fact that Florida licensed him because California licensed him or whoever the hell did it, it’s an embarrassment to us as fighters, as a sport, and we all should protest that. The woman that’s fighting him, props to you. I hope you beat his ass, and I hope he gets blackballed and never fights again, because that’s disgusting and I’m appalled by that.”

And we were doing so well with the ‘No blatant bigotry’ thing up until now! Really, considering the circumstances, I think most of us have been pretty open minded about the whole situation. But Mitrione went past voicing an argument against Fox being allowed to fight other females with the whole ‘sick, sociopathic, disgusting freak’ thing, and the UFC quickly responded:

“The UFC was appalled by the transphobic comments made by heavyweight Matt Mitrione today in an interview on the ‘MMA Hour.’

“The organization finds Mr. Mitrione’s comments offensive and wholly unacceptable and — as a direct result of this significant breach of the UFC’s code of conduct – Mr. Mitrione’s UFC contract has been suspended and the incident is being investigated.

“The UFC is a friend and ally of the LGBT community, and expects and requires all 450 of its athletes to treat others with dignity and respect.”

This has led to a lot of people siding with Matt Mitrione – one of the biggest huffs was over the UFC’s labeling of his behavior as ‘transphobic.’ OH LOOK AT THE NEW PC TERM WE GOTTA PUT UP WITH NOW. THIS FUCKING IMAGINARY BULLSHIT LABEL THEY’RE USING TO KEEP US FROM SPEAKING OUR MINDS. Look, jackasses. Just because you’ve never heard of it before doesn’t mean it isn’t very real and very serious. Trans people are one of the highest at risk groups on earth, suffering extremely high rates of harassment, physical assault, sexual violence, MURDER, and discrimination. Outed transgenders often lose their jobs, are evicted from their homes, and are denied service at stores, restaurants, and government institutions. All because prejudiced ignoramuses like Matt Mitrione consider them mentally unstable deviants.

It’s one thing to misunderstand Fox or any transgendered’s motivations to go through the years of surgery and hormonal therapy required for gender reassignment. Transgender issues are new to many of us and few have any insight at all on what it’s like knowing in your core that you were born into the wrong gender. But when you declare transgendered people ‘disgusting freaks’ you cross the line from uneducated to intolerant. You become a bigot spouting hate and my opinion is you deserve whatever punishment your employer doles out for voicing your moron opinions in public. Mitrione should consider himself lucky he wasn’t straight up fired.

At this point it’s easy to stand up for gay rights. Standing up for the rights of transgendered people takes a bit more sack, and I’m glad the UFC has shown they’re willing to do it.

    Well said, brother.

  • repenttokyo

    Excellent post.

  • kvelertak

If you think the UFC is doing this cuz they give a flying fuck about Transgender rights you’re naive.

They are doing this to protect market share with gay consumers and maintain any sponsors that might cause an uproar.

Also, Meathead turned down a fight and pissed off Dana not that long ago.

It sounds to me like all of this “blatant bigotry” is directly aimed at the concept of Fox signing up to fight women. Which, as far as I understand it, is exactly the viewpoint of every single person who has been opposed to this happening from the start?

Surprised that fightlinker of all places supports disciplinary action taken against a guy who used strong language to try to explain his morals of not wanting a dude to be allowed to legally beat on women.

Not saying that he was in the right, or that he’s a grand intellectual who should share more of his thoughts with the internet, but it seems odd to me to punish a fighter for having passionate opinions on who gets to fight who.

  • Reverend Clint

he didnt say Fox was a disgusting freak because he is a tranny. He said it because he lied to the women and promoter about formerly being a man.

  • Fightlinker

yeah the words disgusting freak had nothing to do with Fox being a tranny…

  • rickards

obviously his line of reasoning is that s/he purposely had a sex change in order to beat the crap out of women, or something; but really, i don’t think that’s it. she just wants to compete.

  • Goosefabba

Yea, id say he was referring to “it” being a man trying to get over on the system by fighting women.and that it would take a sick person to hide the fact or misrepresent the fact that “it” was a man at one point. with all the advantages that physically come with it. And im saying “it” because he/she is still in a inbetween state hormonally a woman and physically a man.
Have “it” fight men or other transgenders, unless the woman is fully informed that this person used to be a man. and is ok with that.

  • drunkejunk

fox still shouldn’t be fighting women. its wrong.

  • frickshun

Great post Ryan. At the heart of this, it’s not about speaking your mind. It’s about attacking a group that is actively persecuted globally the way minorities, gays & women have been. Moving past medical issues of fairness in the cage, we need to respect Fallon on a fucking HUMAN LEVEL.

  • Reverend Clint

what are Fallons T levels Compared to a woman? Natural roids

  • Filmdrunk

Fights, like sex, should involve two consenting adults. If Fallon Fox is open about her status (I do think not disclosing it is bullshit), she should be allowed to fight whoever wants to fight her. If they don’t want to fight her they shouldn’t have to. This isn’t that fucking complicated.

  • glassjawsh

“tranny” is an offensive term and if you call someone “it” you might as well be callig them a “faggot” or a “nigger”.

This guy played with Drew Brees at Purdue. I grew up worshipping the ground that team walked on…disappointing doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface…

  • Reverend Clint

Lol everythings offensive these days… as soon as porn stops using the term i will give it up.

Btw meathead is offensive to the large mentally handicapped among us.

  • AcadianBacon

LGBT and all related issues relate to the fact that we live a cushy society who don’t participate in the basic problems of life, such as finding food and surviving. We are so blessed that we have the luxury of choosing whether we want to be a man or a woman. Do you think some North Korean ultra-starve is worried about his/her sexual proclivity? This is a stupid argument…if Fallon Fox chose to be a woman then so be it, but don’t pretend that it’s an important issue. For societal purposes..she is a she and if other she’s choose to try to kick her ass, so be it. Fuck we live in a fucked world…

  • kvelertak

So.. all you people flipping out about using the word disgusting freak?

Why is it ok to say “Freakshow” fight with guys like Hong Man Choi?

    Because he’s a guy and not a gay/female/transgender?

We need some mens rights up in this bitch.
