Miesha Tate Knows There Will Be No Easy Outs As Champion

As the champion of the female bantamweight division in the UFC, Miesha Tate knows plenty of worthy contenders are out there looking to take her down.

Tate, who submitted Holly Holm to win the title, appeared on a recent edition of “UFC Tonight” to discuss just who she might face first.

“What I’ve decided as a champ, I can have the mentality to fight anyone at any time,” she said. “There are so many top contenders now – Ronda (Rousey), Holly, Amanda (Nunes), Julianna Pena, they’re all solid competition. It’s not my job as a champ to pick a fight, it’s to fight whoever they put in front of me.

“I’d like to stay active as a champion and not wait until November. I’d like to defend the belt and continue to prove why I’m the best in the world.”

While many believe Rousey might just be the first, the fact that Tate doesn’t want to wait could change things. Rousey, a former champion herself, has bested “Cupcake” twice before and the two have been at the forefront of many headlines for female MMA.

“I didn’t get into this sport to find someone to hate,” she said of her rivalry with Rousey. “Being the best in the world is my motivation. But having the rivalry has elevated both our careers to new levels.”
