The only thing harder than winning for an aged mixed martial artist is staying retired. I had high hopes for Fedor when he said he was done, but already there are rumors he will be competing again in September. He didn’t even last two months! So what hope can you have for Mirko Crocop, who’s love / hate relationship with fighting verges on a mental dysfunction? He’s already back at kickboxing, but now he’s talking about competing in MMA as well.
“Concerning my retirement from the UFC, I said it was my last fight for the UFC and last fight on the present contract, but I did not say, ‘I won’t keep fighting,’ ” Filipovic said. “I never said that. I think the best thing to say is that I was born to fight.”
Just like he never said his Final Fight fight was his final fight either. Why do people keep getting so confused about this stuff?
“If you ask me, when I look deep into my soul, of course I would like to fight MMA again,” Filipovic said. “People don’t get it. Martial arts is my life.”
Translation: “I go into house to sit on recliner and smoke pipe and wife, she is all ‘Mirko, vacuumobile the living zones’ and ‘Mirko, make sexing with me!’ So to get peace I am in hide outs back in gym getting punches in face.”
“My motivation now is to prove to everyone that I’m still capable of being in the cage. I’m not old. I’m 37, but I can do things that fighters 10 years younger cannot. I will prove that, or I will die trying.”
That’s what we’re afraid of.
