Mistakes coming back to bite you in the ass

Sometimes Zuffa is it’s own worst enemy … every so often they do something obviously stupid that comes back to bite them in the ass. Today you’re beginning to see the result of Zuffa firing all the old Pride employees: wow, who would have thought that all those fight promoters you fired would band together and work for another fight promoter??? You’d have to be fucking Nostrodamus to predict that one!

Depending on who you talk to, the 12/31 show is either a farewell to PRIDE’s loyal fanbase in Japan or possibly the start of something bigger. Many of the employees who were laid off by Zuffa when the PRIDE office in Japan was closed are expected to be involved in promoting the show.

Nothing gets the Japanese fired up like the opportunity to tell gaijin to fuck off, and this show is probably going to be one gigantic FUCK YOU ZUFFA from start to finish with a gigantic middle finger hanging from the rafters and a live feed to a room of naked sumo wrestlers swimming in the yen being made on this show.

Yeah, I know: one show isn’t about to challenge Zuffa or make them regret their actions. But it would be interesting if a year from now people remember this NYE show as the turning point where Zuffa lost it’s grip on their mixed martial arts monopoly (that they only created by dealing the killing blow to the company which has now risen zombie-like from the grave sans the debt that Zuffa nicely cleared out).

    Oh Delicous!

They will probably take a bath financially but it would be awesome if they did actually challenge the UFC for a significant piece of the pie. I would like a link for that live feed of the Sumo wrestlers.

The problem is that between the UFC and K-1, most of the talent is already locked up. Or is the UFC the only company to use exclusive contracts?

  • Toxie

This show will not make any yen.

Remember what Fedor said : ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE WHEN YOU MAKE A WISH!!!!

  • marshal

I’m starting to think Fedor has Downs Syndrome. Maybe the M-1 organization was created by Dana White to De-Face Fedor!

Yeah, a crappy show promoted by the guys that do Hustle (Yay pro wrestling LOL) with the main event being Fedor: Captain Afraid of Real Fighters vs. a guy with one MMA fight… is going to make the UFC so scared of a country that they don’t run events in.

Pride didn’t die because of Zuffa, Pride died because they made zero money and ran far too lavish events with far too many fighters without TV. This event has no TV coverage and will lose money. Hey, just like Pride.

Only problem with your theory is that Zuffa has all the big name PRIDE fighters.

After Zuffa bought PRIDE, these same guys continued to run/promote Hustle out of the then-owned Zuffa offices. They also periodically started rumours that there were gonna be PRIDE shows (remember the monthly rumours in the summer?) without Zuffa’s knowledge. Kinda like how M1 and M! global are working…Anyway, if you’ll recall, Zuffa’s stated reason for shutting down the PRIDE offices was that the employees/management there were uncooperative, among other things. These guys (PRIDE/Hustle) had no intention of doing anything other than what they are doing. FL’s right–they had no desire to be cooperate with or be run by foreigners, especially foreigners who bought up a proud Japanese outfit. Always remember that the yakuza and the fascists/imperialists walk arm-in-arm all over Japan. The cops complete the trifecta.

I’ll bet Zuffa is still laughing since they have the best fighters (at least the ones who are interested in competing against other top fighters). In fact the poor organization of this supposed NYE event only justifies why Zuffa closed PRIDE down.

If anything, this is the only bit of real “Validation” for Zuffa this past week.

As far as I can tell it means dick whether Zuffa has the best fighters are jackasses. People are willing to pay 30-40 dollars to see Rashad Evans fight Michael Bisping.

I need to read my posts before I hit submit. *OR not are.

Normally one would insist on non-compete agreements with key employees before buying the company.

“Normally one would insist on non-compete agreements with key employees before buying the company.”
Zuffa’s biggest fuck up in the PRIDE thing was keeping all the old staff, imo. I understand why they did–Zuffa has no presence/experience in Japan, so they felt that having these guys around might help them with bookings, TV, marketing, etc. However, they could have gotten rid of management types (those rumoured to be the ones freelancing) and promoted from within. Guess they really had no good options.

This post should be titled “Mistakes coming back to eat your ass butter” (this is good for the UFC)
