“No one cares anymore, but the Sapp incident had NOTHING to do with the fight money,” said Tanikawa via FEG’s English writer Stuart Tonkin. “You can ask IGF about that. That guy is such a loser. He is one lonely man….”
Someone then suggested that perhaps Sapp and Tanikawa should settle their issues in the ring. His reply, “I wouldn’t lose to that hairless prick.”
It’s worth noting that there is a tiny bit of truth in Tanikawa’s statement that it wasn’t all about the money. According to people in the know, FEG also tried to switch Bob Sapp’s NYE wrestling match with Shinichi Suzukawa to a real fight last second. When Sapp said “Uuuuuuuuh what? The deal – and the pricetag – was for fake ass pro wrasslin”, they cancelled the fight and announced during the event that he’d ‘lost his fighting spirit.’
As for the reasons behind the change from fake to real fighting, I’m sure TBS’s refusal to show Sapp’s fight on TV because his opponent was a disgraced pot smoker had nothing to do with it. They’d never try to shave 30k off the budget by giving Sapp unagreeable terms. Oh no. They are paragons of honor and fair business practices.
