Nate Diaz wants to get his ass kicked

The thing that pisses me off about the Diaz brothers is they’re always feeling like they’re being cheated. “Oh, I’m not getting this and that because I’m not a pretty boy and I don’t cut my hair like a moron.” “Oh, I’m so fucking persecuted, everyone’s out to get me.” Blah blah blah blah blah.

Latest in the long line of indignities suffered by the Diaz brothers is Nate being passed over for the big fights. Nate specifically wonders why Joe Lauzon is getting a shot at Kenny Florian when Nate was the one who won TUF.

Lauzon vs Florian is already something of a WTF booking, but Joe Lauzon’s still getting good mileage because of his knockout of Jens Pulver. Nate on the other hand will continue to be looked at as the guy who only won The Ultimate Fighter because Manny’s got a bum shoulder.

There’s no denying the potential Nate has, but throwing him up against Kenny Florian or Tyson Griffin now would be more of a disservice than continuing to line him up against mid-level lightweights. Put him in the ring with one or two more guys who either have the ground game to give him trouble or some striking to test his chin. Let him develop a bit more as an all around fighter. Then you can stack him against the best in the division and see if he washes out like his big brother did.

  • fightfan

I say throw him in to the pack. If his arrogance thinks that he’s the shit, then test him. But we all know that will never happen. Since he is TUF winner he will not face contenders until at least 4 or 5 more fights….and then still maybe not. After 6 fights Bisping still being fed wash ups. And the only reason for McCarthy having 1 more fight in the UFC is the fact that they need someone to make Bisping to look good

  • Fightlinker Jackal

Seriously what’s the cockiness? I’d like to see Manny punch his pothead in.

  • Geoff

I say they do Nate Diaz/Kurt Pellegrino. Winner gets Huerta or Griffin or Edgar loser gets Jeremy Stephens.

  • yenny

I disagree. I think that Nate fighting above his abilities would be a service to him. And I agree he wants to take fights where there’s a great potential to get beaten. Any loss for him will only make him better. Florian’s better, but Nate would make it a full 3 round desperate beat down bloody fight.

But I’m sure the UFC is playing it safe since he’s the TUF winner.

  • Beau

I’m not sure if Manny would have been able to Lay and pray his way to a decision in their fight. Diaz’s subs come outta nowhere and there is a good chance Manny would have gotten caught. Obviously its biased but Nate said he would tap Manny all the time in practice.
Pellegrino sounds like a pretty good opponent to me. Or maybe Spencer Fisher. Both would be tough fights for Nate and if he won he would move up the LW ladder a lot. Joe Daddy got a title shot for beating Pellegrino.

  • Beau

Also, I wouldn’t go and assume Florian is better than Nate Diaz. They both share their most impressive win over the same guy, Alvin Robinson. I think Florian against Nate would be an awesome fight. Probably turn into a crazy fast Jiu Jistu struggle on the ground. Neither of them is a boring wrestler and neither is scared to mix it up.

  • Mobb Deep

    Nate vs Guillard I says.

  • fightlinker

Battle of the cocky SOBs. Melvin wouldn’t stand a chance. How about cockface Clementi vs Nate? That’d be a small but decent step up in talent.

  • RL Dookiefuck

Rematch him with Franca. Diaz put up a decent fight in their first match up. It would be a good way to see how he’s improved.

  • godzillad

Diaz would stop Florian but probably get his ass kicked by Tyson.

    209 BITCHES!

  • dignan

I hope we all can agree that Nick Diaz would kick Nate Diaz’ ass.

That being said, Nick has had a tough time winning in the UFC, so why would Nate fare any better???

I always root against Florian, so I don’t care who kicks his ass.

  • Zane

How can you say Nate is not ready to fight bigger names? He absolutely dismantled Robinson and Assuncao, who I assume you would call Mid-Level lightweights. Nate was never in any danger in those fights, (that guillotine last night was no where near finishing him) so why keep feeding him these guys when they don’t even give him a good fight. “Put him in the ring with one or two more guys who either have the ground game to give him trouble or some striking to test his chin”. If you want someone with some ground game to give him trouble you won’t find them in the mid level guys. The only lightweights who would give Nate trouble on the ground are the big names BJ Penn, Joe Stevenson, Tyson Griffin, Frank Edgar. You can’t ask for a test and then say it needs to be a mid level guy because they don’t exist.

  • fightlinker

I’d say alvin and Junior are both lower level. Mid level i’d see as pellegrino, thomas, clementi, fisher. Just a few off the top of my head. It’d be cool to see Nate do a rematch with Franca but Franca’s out till july isn’t he? Because he didn’t lie to the commission?

  • Xavier

Diaz needs to fight Manny again, that fight never was finished and Manny was dominant through what there was of it.

Anything else is dumb at this point.

  • LR

Honestly, Diaz still put Robinson away convincingly. I wouldn’t give him Florian or an upper level guy, but I think he may impress everyone against mid-level competition.

After all, a purple belt from Cesar Gracie is essentially a brown belt from anyone else. Cesar is notorious for making guys go through the damn gauntlet for a black belt.

Diaz’s attitude and arrogance + great jiu-jitsu + Former WBA, WBC boxing champion as his striking trainer + congenital “Me against the world” attitude + Diaz iron chin = success? Who knows, but he was damn quick in disposing of Alvin Robinson.

  • operator

Well he better not pass or turn down any fights after his comments. At least he wants to fight top guys and I’m sure he will but he is gonna have to wait his turn. Maybe if he stays in shape he can pull a GSP and fill someone elses shoes in a bigger fight. Forrest is getting his title shot and he lost to Tito got ko’d by Jardine then cried like a little girl in the octagon so maybe there is hope for Nate.

  • zeke

“I hope we all can agree that Nick Diaz would kick Nate Diaz’ ass.

I always root against Florian, so I don’t care who kicks his ass.”

What the hell are you trying to prove, that you’re an idiot? Nick lost close fights to Diego Sanchez, Sean Sherk and Joe Riggs. There isn’t a single lightweight in the UFC besides BJ Penn that can beat any of those guys.

  • zeke

Oh, and I forgot to mention, a split-decision to Karo Parisyan that could’ve gone either way.

  • BoshyClaus

The Diaz brothers are excellent and exciting fighters with a ton of skill and lots of potential. Fightlinker is calling this one wrong, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of them held a belt in the big show.

  • Brad

I say put him against a guy like Tyson Griffin, Clay Guida or Roger Huerta. After he gets his ass kicked Dana could walk up to him and say “that is why you were fighting c-level fighters now shut the fuck up.”

  • operator

Unrelated but I thought it was funny to see that they were using WWE footage to promote Brock Lesnar. Way to legetamize the sport show Brock in the middle of a WWE ring giving some guy a back breeaker. So does that mean that Dana had to pay WWE for some footage of Brock cuz that would be hilarious. I think it really made Brock look like a joke.

  • godzillad

Nick didn’t lose a close fight with Riggs, that was straight up robbery. Sherk shut him down and Diego beat the hell out of him though.

  • jaydog

Nate vs. Manny would clear some stuff up. But, it would set one of them back significantly and the UFC wouldn’t want to see that. Let them both work their way up. Some fighters need to learn that your mouth is not a weapon worth a damn in the cage.

Here’s the thing, there are really only two truly top-level fighters in the UFC Lightweight Division: BJ Penn and Sean Sherk. After them there are a ton of talented mid-level guys with lots of potential, a few guys who will always make great gatekeepers and some scrubs. Nate has no business fighting BJ or Sherk, but I don’t see any problem putting him against anyone else in the division. He’s tough as hell, has excellent BJJ and odd but useful striking. Also, he’s smarter than his brother. He knows he’s at his best on the ground and he does his best to take his fights there instead of slugging it out with better strikers.

  • fightfan

Nate is just like is cocky brother who think that they are the best in the world. We all seen how easily Nick gets his ass kicked. I cant wait for the day that Nate gets the piss beat out of him.

Both of them really think that they are badder than EVERYONE, period. It is good to be confident. But come on, just look at Nate especially. He is a skeleton with a little meat on it. Wait till he faces someone that in great in BJJ and is strong that will tear Nate’s weak frame a new one

Yeah, clearly physique is how you judge a good fighter. You’re so right.

  • Zane

I agree with those mid level guys, just reading my comment again it came off a little rude I didn’t mean it that way. I am a beginner Cesar Gracie JJ student who is just starting and I am very proud to say I am part of something that the Diaz Bros, Gil Melendez, Jake Shields are all a part of. I think Nate Pellegrino would be a great fight, Nate Vs. Franca will def happen again. I think Nate Vs. Gurgel on a PPV would be awesome for Nate’s popularity and I don’t think he would be in much danger of losing that fight…

  • fightfan

    POST 26

you get a fighter that is built and has strong BJJ game…..well the fighting skills as Nate, except a hell of a lot stronger, that fighter will win

  • Wu Tang

Wow alot of diaz fans here.. One word from a rival faction of bjj… Fuck Cesar Gracie JJ! My Grand Master has issues with him and fuck Cesar Gracie JJ!

As for the pot twins.. They should get sponsered by hooked on phonics. I swear, if either of them wins again, i would hope they would thank their sponsers and give their biggest supporters their dues. “Hook on phonics works for me. ABCD.. Errr. forgot the rest,im on their 10 year program.”

As per Joe L-lau… He is a monster! This kid did a fucken flying heal hook at a local tourny a few years back, he was the smallest of the bunch and won the whole thing! He has more exp than diaz bros and K-flo, K-hoe, K-fag. Joe is easily one of the best at 155, BJ Penn easily saw that and took him under his wing. As long as BJ Penn doesnt add seasoning, deep fry it and eat with pork fried rice, J-lau has a good chance to being top chicken in hte UFC. Per say he avoids BJ’s hunger spells and his diet.. BJ Penn Diet, consists of eating anything and everything while putting his legs over his head.

  • frickshun

Wu, you’re fucking crazy. That being said, I’m a fan of Lauzan as much as the Diaz Bros. I love watching both of them fight. Odd though that you’re repping for New England but say fuck Kenny Florian? Yes, I like watching him throw down too.

  • fightlinker

All I’m saying is give the kid a few more decent challenges before throwing him to the wolves. Nick Diaz was tossed out because he kept losing (barely) to the top guys at WW. Perhaps the UFC should protect and develop Nick a bit so he doesn’t end up washing out too? Just a thought.

Oh, and if you lvoe or hate Cesar Gracie then do a search for him in the blog. We find him endlessly amusing

  • Zane

    Wu who is your grandmaster?

  • JoeRoganIsAnAss

    Probably Grand Master Biatch

  • Wu Tang

Oww a third degree purple belt under rolls gracie ;p.

Well, i like Joe rather than kenny. Joe is easily the favorate, dispite what everyone says, ken even admits that j-lau has more exp than him.

    C. gracie is an act… Lost to an old frank sham via head kick.. err won.
